my ek9 isn't great, need advice!

yeah thanks, what could be the cause of low compression then? The car runs fine, doesn't play up as far as i know and doesn't excessively smoke in or out of vtec.

Compression test would enable you to determine if anything is wrong internally in the engine. such as piston rings, valve stem seals etc.

Does it use much oil?

in the three days iv'e owned the car i topped up the oil once and that was the day i got it, the oil level is now just below max so i'd say no for a b series it doesn't which makes it even more confusing

could be a number of things, wrong/lesser cams(vti), wrong gearbox, wrong ecu etc.

If i was you, yes if get the comp test done but id also put it on the dyno to see the power specs. also check the gearbox codes etc.

say its done to power to weight ratio but service yours and clean up the trottle body little things can really add up.

Is the engine a B16B or B16A? does it have the right ecu, have you cleaned out the IVAC and the vtec solenoid. I'd be checking those before a comp test.

Gotta remember mate , the crx is like a tin can running 180-190 bhp, it's rapid ! So so light (about 250kg lighter than your 9) running decent power.

I personally think the sale was a bit off .. Hence me telling you to do all the right research but anyway, get checking the block for the engine codes, check the box, has it got an LSD ?

it's an s4c gearbox, i did all the right research, dcy recommended it and it looked ok when i looked around it..
it was sat up for a month or so though so i'm gonna go ahead and service it and flush the engine, the block is b16b that was the first thing i checked.
i'm sure it is something little, i'm also going to clean the vtec solenoid and maybe get a new dizzy cap and rotor arm if it comes to it.

Yeah just clean it right up hopfully you'll find the problem

If you think your car doesnt have bad compression, is in gd nick and running all the correct parts. Maybe you should be looking into what the other ek9 has, aftermarket ecu. Or gearing? Differnt fd could effect the outcome

As far as I (and the other owner) know the other 9 is the same as mine, intake, and exhaust..
I'll update once the car is serviced and checked over, the bits are now on order..
Also to the driver comment, I'm no racer for sure but driving in a straight line from a rolling start isn't rocket science

Have a shot of your mates 9 then jump straight into yours and go from there ..

He carnt tell the difference between mine and his but when I had a go in his I felt that when vtec kicked it it didn't sit me in the seat like mine dose or even try to spin up when u shift to 2nd :/ it's like his vtec comes in smooth rather then harsh it feels the same as my friends 08 plate s2000

I had this same problem to correct it I bumped my ignition timing 2 18 degrees and my fuel pressure was slightly off corrected that as well car began 2 perform.... with my PFC now car is a total different car lol

car is perfecto!! changed the plugs, oil and hamp filter then had the timing adjusted. It now runs beautiful and pulls so much better than before..
happy!!!
