No Brake Lights?

Hi guys. Recently found i have no brake lights when pressing brakes. So I've checked the bulbs for continuity, as well as the fuses and the bulb holders. All come back fine, although I'm not too sure how it works regarding the bulb holders. When I depress the pedal it still has continuity. I have yet to check the switch on the brake pedal( not the easiest of places to get to) How common is it for that switch to become faulty and has it happened to any1 here? Note: when I turn my lights on, the lights work, just the second filament doesn't light up when the pedal is depressed.(It is not blown, beep tested it.) I pulled the plug out of the brake switch on the pedal arm, got a piece of wire and joined the 2 pins inside the plug. Lights still never came on. Then checked voltage and has 12.2V. Beep tested it as well to be ultra sure and it came back fine. So I'm not sure why the lights aren't coming on? I thought by putting a wire in the plug to short it the lights would come on? Bulbs have been beep tested again to make sure. Not too sure what's left to check now?

Check the earths mate, sounds like an o/c on the earth side.

its earthed to the chassis under each quarter wing, on a 10mm short bolt iirc. Then check you're battery earth/ground.

do a resistance check between the earth side of the bulbs connector and the chassis. should read continuity/ 0.1ohms or better

hope you get it sorted.

thanks ill try this out. where exactly are the grounding points? im not familiar with the term wing etc?

Might be worth a look at the brake light switch on the pedal if all else fails mate

Well by my understanding, when the pedal is depressed, the circuit is closed, so by taking the plug out the switch and putting a wire on the two points of the plug, (essentially closing the circuit by bypassing the switch) the lights should come on as if the pedal was depressed. When I did this, they didn't come on, I then tested voltage and got 12.2V and continuity was fine as well at the plug. So this being done, ill still test the switch for continuity as well but I don't think its the problem given the above.

try and get a friend to give you a hand by depressing the pedal when you take the reading, I have a wiring diagram of it at home, but im in malaysia at the min.

under the front quarter panels/fender is where the earth points are. If the wiring is similar you should see a group or 2/3 wiring bolted to the chassis. ill try google it for you.

the point you refer to, is that on the passenger side, above the ECU? i know there is a grounding point there? i haven't had the time lately to look at it but will do over the weekend. i realized i didn't test the voltage or continuity at the bulb holder when i shorted the plug out as mentioned above.

That wiring diagram would be a help tho man. Thanks.

Hey man, any luck with that diagram?? I checked everything over, then decided to take the rear lights out. While taking the left one out, the brake lights miraculously started working again. (I have the plug shorted out.) I checked the wiring on the lights themseves(beep tested them on both lights) and all was fine. I checked the immediate wiring to the lights on both sides and it looked good as well. Saw a little corrosion on my strip connectors from my ctr conversion so I got some Q20 and srpayed them along with the plugs to avoid any further moisture etc. Check the lights again and they where working. Put everything back together and checked again- nothing.. I almost cried haha. I've checked the wire colours leaving the plug that connects to the brake pedal switch, there is one White with thin green strip wire and one green with thick grey strip wire. However when I look at the back of the car on the plugs tat go into the lights, I do not see these colours on either side?? I'm certain its a loose earth/ground wire or live somewhere, I just don't know where...

It seems to be the plug on the left side that goes into the light, I just wiggled it and voila, working again.. Strange. Then left the lights on while putting them back, then un shorted the plug, then shorted it again and nothing again... I am puzzled.
