Oil Pan Gasket?

Okay...I recently did an oil change and accidently topped it off a little too high (4.5l oil in total). Due to not having a JDM B18CR Service Manual I didnt know the exact amount. It read higher than i liked so i went and sucked a little oil out and all is fine in my book for now (drove roughly 60 miles with it topped off before reducing the amount). Like most, i like to double check for leaks after an oil change and noticed my oil pan gasket was a little oil soaked (not leaking, just black oil residue) all around the spot where the oil pan/sump meets the bottom block. like i said it is not a leak (i hope it does not turn into one) but there is evidence of oil residue (not from the recent change). The pan/sump was clean with no oil, only the seal around the pan/sump. I was told this is somewhat normal!?! Has anyone else experienced this? On my previous engine before the swap, i never had this issue. Currently the engine is still clean and oil is not getting low (unless burning off from Vtec). Any comments or concerns will help here. I dont like oil on my baby...

Mine looks similar to what you've described, n I'm goin to be changing mine next oil change. It's supposed to be dry an clean.

75% of cars on the road tend to have oil staining around the bottom of the block and sump seal.

If its not really lossing any oil just slightly weeping out I wouldn't worry about it, thats prity normal.

Plus the fact that a new gasket is almost £30! just for a srip of rubber with a few holes in!

Thanks for the replies, i will clean it off during the next oil change when it is up on the lift (only 2.9k miles to go, lol). Then i will monitor it from there to see if it is getting worse. it is nice to know mine is not the only one doing it. Now, to go buy some carb cleaner...

Does anyone else have any input on this issue?

I agree with you on everything you've said Kieran but im just paranoid about these type of things and have to get it done or my OCD starts taunting me lol.

Ha, I know the feeling! OCD kicks my ass when it comes to my car!

Haha my instant cure for OCD is to check my bank balance and list of parts on the priority list. Lol
