what is the story with open insurance, my mate bought a bashed up punto insured it with open drive and now drives a twin turbo rx7. how does it work does someone have to be insured on the rx7 as well?? like if its tht easy why wud every1 not do it?

hey he is probably insured with quinn. they do a policy whereby you can get insured on for instance the punto and then you are insured to drive any other car as long as its not in your name! there must also be nct and tax on the car! no body needs to be insured on the car! also theres no age limit with quinn as long as you have a full licence. i looked a lot into this a couple weeks ago :D

are u sure i heard u had to be 25 ,that was from quinn......

wel im almost certain... i rang maybe 3 months ago and asked them and i was 18 at the time and they had no problem quoting me! i dont think they call it open drive though....

Got it with them 2 weeks ago and i'm 20. It's only comes with 3rd party insurance or with fire and theft aswel and you only have 3rd party insurance in the car your driving as open driving

yep thats its. can i ask are you driving a car that nobody else is insured on? using this ploicy! if so how do you tax the car? because as far as im aware you cant tax a car unless someone is insured on it! if yea no what im mean lol

wel i'm not driving the civic at the moment needs test and tax but i'll chance just putting down my quinn policy number hopefuly they won't check it up normally they don't i think. i was insured when i taxed it last

yea maybe that would work. i was thinking of getting this but i was unsure if i could tax the civic then! and well if i couldnt tax it id be screwed!

Yeah im pretty sure that any car you drive other than the one on your policy has to be insured aswell! i have this open drive on my quinn policy aswell

i dont think anybody else has to be insured on the other car. its just that with no insurance on it how can you tax it?!

yea i believe thats the catch alrite... i wonder would they let you tax it if you used your open drive policy though? probly not!

No I think u need to get a car with nct and tax then u can drive it on open policy till there up

i spoke to a quinn employee on the phone and they told me u had to be 25* FACT thats what she sayed! so how did u get it at 20 ? please explain this as i am having trouble understanding it and needing quick insurance, help appreciated cheers

wel i rang them maybe 2 months ago and i was talkin to a chap who said all you need is a full licence! altough i dont think he called it open insurance... its more like a third party extension. slightly differnent but you would still be insured 3rd party on your nine as long as its taxed and nct'd

the only problem is that you cant tax a car without having insurance on it... as far as im aware...

Hi thanks for that.. think of buyn a v-tec and as u no its hard to get insurance.
my mate as a d-turbo insured 3rd party..third party extension. he drives a is200 as well lol
wen he went to get it taxed he give them his polisy number and it was fine:)
