hey guys just wondering if ne1 could help me, its been very cold recently and the water temp pin always stays very low which means it will b over fueling, ive been told that if i buy the spoon thermostat spoon thermo fan switch and the spoon radiator cap, the guy told me that these 3 part work in conjunction with each other, is this correct and would it make my 9 run at a higher temp, let me no cheers

If you're worried about overcooling, the last thing you wanna do is go and buy all those spoon gubbins - they're designed to keep the system as cool as possible!!

Sounds like you might already have a low temp thermostat or a defective thermostat - I had this same problem when i first picked up my '9 - a trip to Honda and a couple of quid later had me a new thermostat and ever since she goes to half way up the temperature guage and stays put - just as it should.

agreed with jokeshopbeard here, DONT buy those spoon items,
just take a visit to honda with your chassis number and get yourself a new thermostat, also some genuine honda coolant is worthwhile,
give the system a flush through when its apart:nice:

I got a spoon radiator cap on mine an it sits quite low sometimes. usually bout a third have never seen it at half. Is the spoon cap the reason for this? It came with it on I dint buy it.

The rad cap just dictates the maximum pressure in the cooling system before it allows excess pressure to escape - I cant imagine this would have anything to do with the overall temperature.

Possibly if the previous owner fitted this he fitted a low temp thermostat too?

some people like to fit spoon caps because it says "spoon"
i believe the real purpose of it is to increase the pressure in the system to raise the boiling point and supposidly make the the cooling system more efficient, but,
by fitting this cap on a normal pretty stock road car all you are doing is putting extra strain on cooling system components,

people some times fit these caps when their car starts boiling over due to head gasket failing, it can cover up the problem and make it worse at the same time.
stick with the stock cap! its that pressure for a reason.

in my opinion the purpose of the high pressure rad cap is 1 thing, as people have said it is to raise the boiling point, reason to do that is so your rad fluid does not over flow in the reservoir and spill out onto the track. You can usually get kicked out of a track for leaking fluids onto the track.

cheers for the info guys, also jst fitted an air filter jst a cheap 1 off my mate till i get enuf muny 2 buy a decent 1, wen the engines sitting idol theres a whining noise coming from it, is this normal?

its normal to hear a bit of a sucking whine type noise from a cone type filter.

My ek9 has also started suffering from the same over-cooling. I have an aluminium rad so will the OEM honda thermostat still fit??

Yes - the thermostat is located on the side of the block - where your lower radiator hose connects. The fact that you have an aluminium rad has no bearing on the type of thermostat used.

yes, as said many times, thermostat.

i had the same problem in my eg, i replaced my one myself, super easy and only took 10 mins.

Just bought a thermostat from Honda today, £25! hope it solves my problem, I will let you know. also bought a new coil pack, £82 for that! :(

just bought a thermostat from honda which cost £25, do you need to buy a gasket to go with it, i didnt think you need to but my brother just mentioned it so let me know plz, cheers

I'm not sure mate, I will ask at honda when I pick my thermostat up tomorrow.

should come with a rubber bit that fits around the thermostat, that is the gasket/seal:nice:
