i like to collect old car magazines and particularly anything relating to hot hatches around the late 80's and 90's.

i was going through some of my mags today and came across the review for the ek9, as far as im aware this was the only uk magazine to review the type r ek9 and dont think there are many copies around so pretty rare.

This was published in 1998 so no evo magazine or anything like that then , this is the review you hear people talk about when it comes to the much debated 0-60 time, anyway thought it would be good for the resource area.:)

i have included the parts that are relevant to the 9 but left out the other hot hatches to keep the file size down.

seems they like the noise and the speed but didnt rate the handling that well as far as i can see , strange :nono:

Didn't Performance Car evolve into EVO magazine?
 
yea thats right , it joined with car magazine to make evo , think it was mostly the same editors from pc mag.
 
Thought so. Also saw Dickie Meaden's name near the end of the article.

I agree strange comments about the handling - maybe they were still using Jap spec tyres?

Hi Guys

I think I may have a copy stored on my old PC - I remember when it was posted and I copied it so I will take a look and let you know ok? It may be a few days or so as I need to get the old PC out and probably have to give it a jump start if you catch my drift.........fingers crossed!

Guys all sorted......eventually found the article on my old PC after 2 hrs of looking through about 5000 photos and videos etc!!!!!

Anyhow......please see attached :)

(The article is only partial and focused on the CTR a little. I have actually now found a back copy of the May 1998 issue of Performance Car on the internet for £6.99 which includes the above so have ordered and once received will try and scan the full article and post it up) :)

What?! They drove the EK9 and only had a meagre few lines to say about it? And gave half a page to a Pug! Just goes to show how much these 'car experts' know.... How can you make a judgement call on the handling ability of a car against another car without repeated timed runs on a track?!

Too much twaddle, not enough fact.

Nice one! I know its not too good is it? Anyhow's I should have the magazine shortly so will post up ALL the review and hopefully it will give us a bit more! Watch this space :)
 
Thankyou for posing that up.

Basic appreciation for it but they didn't like it as much as the teg by the sound of things.

Coincidentally, I bought a copy of the relaunched version of the magazine last year and noticed one of the contributors had a red dc2 and kept a monthly diary of it.
