Is there much difference between the big piston brands like je, cp, arais wossner and so on in terms of quility of the piston?

I've seen on a thread or two on h-t that cp's are made a bit better and that they match the pistons so that there weights are very similar.

is this true? also has anybody got any recommendations on this subject?

From what i was led to believe from speaking with a number of tuners is that Wiseco are about the best out there

Hence why Blueprint racing only supply these pistons and Endyn use Wiseco slugs to machine their own roller-wave pistons

:nice:

my opinion if your buy aftermarket pistons go over size so to start fresh and have machine shop match each piston to each cylinder doin so early will save alot of problems in the future

In my opinion its more about what piston suits you best (as all those pistons are good), other than "whats the best piston". I'd be looking at : Piston design, Piston alloy & Compression ratio. Which ever brand ticked the most of those box's i'd go for. In my case i went for Mahle piston's as there design, alloy and compression suited me best for my application.

you need to look into silicon content and it's properties. the wiseco's are unlikely to suffer from piston slap due to their higher silicon content than most but still retaining a good bit of extra strength over OE pistons basically the more silicon the more resistant the piston is expansion as the temperature rises (thus you can't use as tight tolerances and the piston is more likely to slap it's skirt against the cylinder wall) however the more silicon the weaker the piston becomes. wiseco seems to have a good balance

Yeah i've heard mahle are really good. Are the pistons all not a very similar design? Would there be alot of difference in the design between say a 11.5:1 mahle piston and a 11.5:1 wiseco piston?

i would buy the wiseco's my self they are a well know brand, Teflon coated ,and are ran in many set up's , $450 bout 350 euros ,i have not heard much about other brands but its up to you at the end of the day .

C.p pistons and carillo rods are owned by pankl probably the best piston and rod maker in the world bar none, as they are oe supplier to Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc and 99% of the F1 paddock.

I'm not sure mate, you'll have to check on both there sights. I can tell you that Mahle are definatly a 4032 alloy compared to Wiseco which are a 2618 (90% sure). Which means to you that you'll have a longer lasting engine with the Mahle's as there thermal expansion rate will be around 18% lower so you'll be able to run a tighter piston to cylinder clearance. Also Mahle feature ultra flat ring and ring groves, and i'm talking ulta here... right down to 1 micron. So as far as piston ring seal goes you won't get any better.

that type of stuff is important for those building a 750+whp machine, you will be hard pressed to see any cars at that level with Wisecos, but everybody under 500whp usese them...
