Did a small change to the OEM air intake box on my 2000 street hatch.
I already had replaced the passwordJDM intake with the OEM box months ago, but I only installed the box itself without the snorkel tube. This setup was taking in warm/hot air from the bottom of the OEM air box opening only.
Over the weekend I added back in the snorkel tube.
Cut the snorkel tube at the bend, which was cut at a strange angle; so that more of the opening was facing the front of the car.
This allowed me to use the OEM tube for cold air intake.
It also lowered the intake noise level which I was after originally with the OEM intake box itself, so this really helped in achieving that goal.
To better secure the cut snorkel to the intake box I used zip tied to clamp the rubber around the snorkel tightly.
The tube already had a hole in it which will help with preventing water ingesting from the tube itself. [acts like the AEM check valve on their CAI solution]
The area which the snorkel is cut at is in the perfect spot for taking in good cold air but still well protected from water spray and road debris.
For those looking for a "no cost solution" to a good working CAI, this is it! "Poor mans CT IceBox" This also works better than the pwjdm whale **** intake.
Here is the part of the snorkel that I did not use
