:welcome:

Hello, I would like to be the owner of an ek9 in the not so distant future since having various rides in my little brothers ek9 rally car (his first car at 17 with 0 ncb! Parental favouritism?), I've been keeping my finger on the 'pulse' through PH and eBay Motors to gauge costs and have only ever seen one ek9 with less than 10k miles being sold by an import company in Scotland.

I have a maximum of 8k to spend, does anyone out there know if this would cover the import and purchase of an ek9 with around 10-15k miles on the clock and in a very good condition? The one I saw advertised in Scotland with 6k miles was going for 8k on the road price in near perfect condition.

Thanks for looking, and a merry x-mas to one and all!

Luke

edit: I wouldn't be importing it privatley I'd be going through a company like Torque-GT which would deal with model reports and whatnot.

Your budget seems a little too low but try contacting type-r-dunc

I would have agreed a couple months ago, but prices for everything including ek9s have dropped an astonishing amount, which is why I've started to think that importing might not even be the cheaper option to waiting for a car already in the country.

Welcome to the forum mate!! I think what blinx is saying is that there are very few examples about that are going to have that little milage - which is perfectly reasonable for a 10+ old car. Any any examples that do have such low milage will be very expensive.

Try shooting for a car that has a little more milage and it'll fall straight into your budget - have a look through the for sale section!!

Thanks :p, yeh I've seen a few 30-40k examples going around, I'd really like one of the lightweight versions but I've only seen one of them up for sale in the UK.

How much would I be saving having it imported on average? Would it be hundreds or thousands? I think the hassle of both importing and scouring the country for a decent example are about equal.

with a 8k budget you looking more into the mile range of 45-60k miles,

Ek9s with 10k would easily be near double that,

bare in mind these engines last, even when driven hard, Honda say the dont even break in til 100k miles

I've seen three at least ek9s with between 30k-40k miles being sold for from 6.5 thousand to 6.8 thousand, prices have really decreased in the last few months alone it seems. If you visit PistonHeads there was one last week in Wiltshire for 6.8k ono almost mint condition pre-facelift with 35k miles.

I thought about a DC5 but the same mileage I want is around the 12 thousand pounds mark, I also thought about a JDM ep3 but what I really want at my age, before the kids and the wife's shopping becomes a factor, is a car that is much like a go cart with the least frills but the most fun. I don't do many miles per year but I want to enjoy every single one -->:drive:

if i saw an ek9 with that low milage i would just think it has been a thrashed track car at the odd weekend

Yeh I suppose, but then you take your chances just the same with high mileage cars but instead they could have been thrashed for 70k worth of miles instead. I'd always check the wear and tear of the whole car and make sure it had full history at least so I could be sure what I was buying was a thoroughbred not a donkey :p

Be very careful as that is cheap for a low mileage 9. If it is a importer selling it then it was most lightly a accident damaged repaired car. As the Japanese exchange rate has shot through the roof a 97 with under 20k would cost you up to about £15,000 and that is doing it all yourself .
For example my 3 for sale are between 55k - 85k and are £7k - £7.5k.

Thanks Dunx, didn't think about it in terms of exchange rates like that, suppose it's better to find one that has already been imported and is owned privatley, I still have my current VW to sell over the next couple of months (should be easy with everyone worrying so much about economical cars) so I'll be interested to see what happens to prices as we are at the so called 'halfway point' of the economic spiral.

I was wondering do accidents show up on the report sheet from auctions like a Japanese version of an HPI check?
