Problems with the Lower ball joint

A couple of months back I replaced my lower ball joint (OEM Honda) because it was making a horrible sound when turning the steering wheel.

Everything was good until last week.. Hearing the same noise again before I replaced the ball joint... The weird thing is... I'm not always hearing it and it's a lot less hard of a sound then before (you could hear it in the car with the windows closed). Noticed the sound when I was parking on my driveway.

So is my ball joint already dead or could it be something else? Only the driver side has this problem (LHD). Could it be the alignment that isn't correct and is stressing the ball joint? Don't drive the car that much so haven't done a alignment correction..

If someone can help me with this that would be great!!

could be the drop links too, if they are worn or loose you will get a knocking/bang from the front.

It's not a knocking sound more a squeeky sound... @ Chrissy: Will check it...but it's just weird because the mechanic checked everything: steering rack, tie rods, and ball joints the last time...

Can a bad tie rod also make a squeeky sound? It's not really noticable but everytime I'm just focusing on the sound when I'm driving :nono:

So if I get a alignment it wouldn't do much then? Would suck if I getting a alignment and nothing is going to change except a good alignment :)):p

Dont think alignment will do anything.
I had same sort of noise and was my top balljoint, drove me crazy trying to find source of noise, I was using skunk2 arms at the time so just went back to oem and all good.

Normally any ball joint will make a squeeky noise when worn/dry

Your mechanic can look at a ball joint, check for a torn boot and movement etc and not find anything but it may still squeek and generally make noise when on the road

I had a very creeky bottom ball joint on my civic, I replaced it with a motor factor ball joint and did aniother trackday.... after 1 trackday it was creeky again so i replaced it again with a blueprint bottom ball joint and it was silent ever since

Thanks for the advice you guys!! going to let it check next week by my mechanic. Hope it's something else and in the meantime... just bump up the radio harder or let my Spoon N1 do all the talking so I can't hear it :p

Well... all ball joints are good!! Only needed some grease around the rubber, so I'm noise free now :D

maybe offtopic but, lower ball joint failure seem to be happening alot lately, i think on older cars like the ek models, might not be a bad idea to replace them before damage is done

Only way of knowing there gone is when they start to knock, won't cause any damage to anything just will need changed

If you suspect they are worn, they knock, squeek or have any play. Change them.

Had one snap on me couple years back on my ek4. Ruined my wing, brake pipe and cost like £150 to get recovered. Know of several others this has happened to aswell. Oddly enough always seems to be the left side. Mine didnt have any signs of wear it just snapped in half completley out the blue.
