Went along to Triple H today in Irvine to put my EK9 on the dyno and a get a compression test done. The Dyno is a Sportdyno V3.5. Compression was good at 225 on all 4 cylinders so I was happy!:nice:

For the figures on the Dyno I wasnt expecting much as my spec is just:

Stock B16B
2.5" exhaust system
B18 airbox with custom 63mm cold air feed
Spoon 4-2-1 manifold
NGK blue leads
Mfactory 4.9 FD
Mfactory Lightwieight flywheel

I was expecting maybe 170bhp at the flywheel as my car is 12-13 yrs old now and 108k miles so I thought it may have lost a few ponies! It gets regular oil changes and I look after it very well and its had a good thrash free life since I have had it the last 2 years anyway. it doesnt burn any oil too!

It weilded 147whp/177.6bhp and 116.3ft lb torque. I was happy but as you can see on the graph and from what Henry says my car is running way too rich at 11.6 I think and he said it should be 14.6ish. I dont understand all these numbers etc as I am no expert. He says it could be my valve stem seals needing changed or because of the crazy angle my exhaust has at the backbox causing too much back pressure. He said he was expecting atleast 195bhp from my set up!:wow: So I am pretty disappointed at the moment and trying to decide what to do?

Can anyone help? shed any light on why it may be running rich? give me some tips, etc?

Meant to add also, does running rich mean over fueling??

Is my car running bad/unsafe if it is running rich?

thanks! :)

You have some problems, couse one guy in Lithuania made 190bhp from his b16b engine with js racing intake and custom 2.5" exhaust system and ecu chip. Without chip car made 185bhp. Futhermore I've made 174bhp with my b16a motor + b16a2 intake mani, custom exhaust system and j's racing intake.
Does your car use much oil or sth?

Hi, not the best news for you there :( If your car is running rich i'm pretty sure thats cause there is too much fuel and not enough air getting to the engine. Have you ever changed the lambda sensor on the car? That could be the problem there. But thats only the obvious answer. It could be a number of things i supose.
Not really much of a mechanically minded guy myself but if you service it regularly i wouldn't know how its not getting a better bhp than that

Best of luck sorting it out tho :nice:

These engines shouldnt lose power due to age - i dont know who started this rumour but honda engines just do not lose power easily - even after many many years!

I would buy a proper under axle exhaust and try that to be honest or buy a normal exhaust sytem - i have to say when i seen your exhaust from under your car in pictures i sort of said to myself surely that must be restricting it.

Woudlnt worry too much but defo change that exhaust !

you cant compare cars ran on different dyno`s friend, esp in another country!
they are only a guide.

seems you are losing a bit off power anyway,i made 185/123 on those same rollers when i got my b16a2 build(oversize ek9 pistons etc etc) mapped with henry.
over two years since i had mine on rollers so be interesting to see what it makes at the w end on local rollers :nerv:

id say change the exhaust and get henry to test it again,he is a helpfull guy and should help you out.

goodluck

yeah that exhaust aint doing flow any favours thats a mad twist man !

Not bad but IMO its will cause more carbon because over fuel..my standard ek4 b16a make 152.3whp and 104.7 lb ft.....agreed with barryl85 you might need another good exhaust....

gerry at performance tek make that exhaust ?? or Faz at funky power, im sure 1 of them popped this exhaust up on civic life, That routing is frikking awful bud, change the exhaust for starter's, you got stock panel filter in the box ??, possibly change for a aem v2, with out mapping the ecu it might still run rich on fuel, i know 9's seem to run rich from stock.

I think you have a healthy B16B.

Can you post more photos of the exhaust? I think that twist is not helping your at all.

Sounds healthy enough to me, comparing it to the SRR results we had. Exhaust needs sorting but doubt you will gain much. As said cant compare to dynos in Lithuania, they sound high anyway.

Henrys dyno is accurate. Get a p28 and get him to map it, that will sort the fueling and your car will be faster.

Has yours ever been dynod mathew? Dont think ive ever seen figures for it !!

Adding up some information, dyno numbers vary from country to country, in my country the dyno is located at 5000 ft above sea level, so they read low. (less oxygen blablabla)

My fully standard ek9 dynoed 137 whp and 97 lb/ft of torque.

Post some photos of your exhaust, maybe you can re design it and make it have a better flow.
