hi all, basically i am getting my b16b fully built again with all new oem pistons etc from honda. i have the b18c6 bottom end and i have also ordered the skunk2 titanium retainers and pro valve springs. just thinking now which cams would be best suited for my engine, the skunk2 pro stage 1 or the skunk2 pro stage2 camshafts?

(everything else is stock except for the throttle body which is from an integra type r)
Thanks for your help.

If you're not prepared to raise the compression then stick with Stage 1's, if you use the Stage 2's with stock compression you will be disappointed with the results.

yeh my mechanic has also said the stage 1 pro should be perfect, just wondering how else would i increase the compresion. (im also getting the brian crower valves if that makes any difference)

if your using a b18c6 bottem end a ek9 pistons would this not raise the compression? Then you could use the s2 stage 2 cams

I think he's just using a std B18C6 bottom end. Id say with a head skim and the Pro 1's would be a good setup.

Unless u are using B16B pistons then id go for the Pro 2's

Is there any chance of valve to piston contact with stage 2's and B16b pistons when using the B18 crank though?

Possible, would want to clay the engine to see exactly how many degree's you can run before clearance becomes a problem

Yep I'm using the b16b pistons, just want to get the right ones as they are the final part I need to order now

If you're buying new pistons, why not just buy suitable afterarket ones for the stage 2's to run the ideal compression with less chance of any contact with the valves?

basically my mechanic has already got all the pistons etc and had them for a long time, he was going to do the rebuild for himself, but now he is doing it for me so im paying for labour etc. were both just deciding on the stage1 or stage2 cams now,

And if you read what they have jus told you, Pro 2's may not be an option as you might not be able to fit them with b16b pistons (i hadnt thought about that lol), thus to find out if they will even work you would have to clay the motor first.

So basicaly if i was you id jus get the Pro1's and use them with the setup you have already set up to build, recon you should see good enough results with that.

Definitely clay it if you're using the Stage 2's like Vtec6000 said, seeing the clearance with Stage 2's on a B16b I wouldn't be too hopeful.

Flat valves should raise your compression around 0.3 - 0.5, make sure to ask your mechanic which set you have to order, because you'll need standard size ones if you don't modify your head.

Brian Crower
part number:
BC3010 33.0mm Intake (standard head diameter)

BC3011 28.0mm Exhaust (standard head diameter)

I'll run the same setup as yours, but I'll use standard ek9 type r valves :p

me and my mechanic have decided that were gona go with the S2 stage 1 Pro because of the valve clearance etc. (although it has been done with the stage 2 in my mates build), but were staying on the safe side. as with the valves hes told me that there the brian crower hes got are the same as ITR ones but will look at the model number. he said he will port and polish the head. Will let you know RVM how it goes :nice:
