seatbelts quite slack

Hi guys my rear seatbelts are quite slack. So if you are a passenger in the back and have your seatbelt on there is loads of slack. Shouldnt the seatbelt automatically pull this in so that it sits nice and snug across you. If you tug the seatbelt the tensioner works but just when you undo the seatbelt it doesnt reel it back in. Any way i can fix this or do i just need new seatbelts?

I think it tends to be when the contact points for belts get dirty the belt don't retract like they should.

I had this problem in my mum's old swift! and it was an MOT failure!! took it to my mechanic and he sprayed dashboard cleaner and worked a treat! spray some on, then slowly yank and release. keep doing this so it works into the mechanism, spray a bit more if needed. hope this helps!
