Hiya fellow people,

I 'm looking to buy a EK9 with the next few months, depending on if i can get a clean one,

- where is the oil filter located on the EK9???
- Is there any guides on here on how to service a EK9?
- i heard from some people that EK9's burn loads of fuel, how much constant abuse can they take and how often should you check and change the oil???

Again thanks

Oil filter is located under the intake manifold, if you jack the car up and look up from underneath at the back of the engine you will see it. Drain oil by removing sump nut. Generally people will change there oil every 10k, but personally I changed it every 5k kms due to the fact I wasnt using the car that much. Worth changing the gearbox oil also with Honda MTF oil. There is a thread on how to change that some where on here, just use the search function. If using standard airbox would be no harm to put a replacement filter in, maybe a aftermarket like spoon, K&N etc

Thank you mate, last question how much engine oil do you have to put in a EK9? 4.5 litres?

Under 4.5 ltrs so a 5ltr can will be plenty even to put abit of fresh oil through first with sump nut open to further drain some of the left over old oil

All B series engine takes 4L of engine oil give or take 1-200 ml how well is drained and what kind of oil filter you use

if you use OEM honda oil filter/ Hamp Oil Filter is 4L

TIPS: when you change your oil good idea to replace the Sump Plug washer please dont reuse them. and check your engine oil after you have started the engine and run it for about 30 sec, during running check for leaks.
and give it a few mins after turning the engine off then check your Oil level it will give you a more accruate oil level.

ALSO when changing your oil, take your car out for a run first to get it up to temperature (not just the water temp gauge getting to half way, needs to be a bit longer as oil takes longer to heat up) then when you get home change the oil with the engine hot

Oil when it is hot will drain out of the car much easier and you will get more of the oil stuff out, just be very careful not to scold yourself on exhaust manifold etc when working on it :)

just out of interest, i done an oil change not long ago and the sump nut was on very tight, so i tightened it up real tight after...should it be torqued up instead as i dont have a torque wrench (next time i do oil change)...:nono:

i think the torque setting would be about 30Nm but good and tight by hand without going overboard is usually fine, enough to crush the washer and seal it :nice:

hey sorry for the correction on the Toqure setting
Steel Sump is 44Nm and Aluminium Sump is 39Nm
