I've recently got back from a 3 week assignment working from my company's headquarters in Los Angeles, CA.

They've been so impressed with my work to date, and presumably the work I did whilst I was there.. That my boss has offered me the opportunity to move out to LA on a semi-perm basis.. I have essentially 3 options available to me now:

1. Move out to LA on a two year fixed arrangement with a job guaranteed back in the UK at the end of the stint. Main negative of this approach being that I will still be paid out of the UK, and pay taxes here... And be subject to exchange rates when transferring money to use in the USA

2. Move to LA "pseudo-permenantly" for 2 years, but come back after 2 years based on a handshake deal with my boss. Bonus to this approach is being paid locally from USA, likely a higher salary too and I understand to be less taxes. Negatives, no guarantee of a job to come home to, or guarantee that I would get paid to move back etc..

3. Stay put in Cheltenham,UK. Accept a small payrise and make do with what I have already

I'm struggling with what to do.. I don't have that many friends in the UK, I'm not over close to family and no longer have A relationship tieing me to one place. I'm 26 this year, and think I may regret this if I don't try it now?...

My boss has also said it can be arranged to take my babies ( ek9 and eg ) to Cali if I wanted... Though not 100% on if I could get funded to take them home on return.

What do you all think? Should I stay or go?

Go dude, 2nd option.

Once in a lifetime opportunity and im sure youl meet great people the way.
Noting is holding you back and noting to loose.

What is it you do?

If I were you man I'd go for it and live there for a couple years and if you like it stay there and if not come back home!

Travel broadens the mind.

Also I was in Huntington Beach last summer for 3 months and went to LA many times and just loved the experience and lifestyle.

Definitely go, it's a rare opportunity and the climate would be miles better..

I'd go for it mate. Not many get good opportunities like this.

Do it man!!!!

I'm on the same way. Moving from my home country to a new country (french to english)!!

This kind of opportunities can come only once a lifetime and you're young and if nothing hold you back it's a no brain answer!!!!

Do it, i'd also go with option 2. It may be tough at first but if you seem to enjoy it then you should be ok. I if doesn't suit you can come back. You may not have a guaranteed job to come back too but you wont have the "IF ONLY/WHAT IF" question hang over you.

Plus cheaper honda parts :nice:

As above really, Do it and go with option 2 as you may not even want to come back!

I'll take option # 2, all the friends that I know that had moved to USA with a 1 year or 2 year contract; they've found another high paying job and moved permanently, just my 2 cents..

mate, you are young, you have a bright future ahead of you, take the opportunity and make something of it. Dont worry too much about your cars, you will find civics there cheap or use company car. SAVE your money as well as much as you can and enjoy the change.

I'd take the risk and go with option 2, you only get 1 shot at life so try something new mate. :)

id be away from this country in a heartbeat! I know nothing about American lifestyle though, all I see on tv is that LA is either really nice or just a gang warzone! lol

Go for it!!

Take option 2 as I'm sure if you keep doing a good job they may keep you on or arrange for you to come back to the UK. The last thing they would want is to lose you.

2nd option, try to arrange a contract that arranges for a job when you come back home. Apart from your LA-contract.

Should do the move if you have no commitments here! An excellent opportunity to further your career and broaden your horizons.

Even better if you can take your cars over :nice:

I would do it in a heartbeat if i could.

I will go with option #2 myself as well, a rare opportunity in a life time and should only worry about the next job in time (which I think won't be a problem for you since you have impressed HQ in just 3 weeks)
