Dont see why not, my new Karcepts doesnt have the nut, but it doesnt have any markings on it, posibly the nut holds it straight though (for the gear markings).

There is a nut & bolt shop near me, not had the time to go there though.
 
i bought my mate one of these for £60 new this is a bargain price i will see if any of the boys in glasgow fancy this mate :) its a great gear knob and a really nice weight in it as well :D
 
I know you said paypal and cash on collection only...so no bank transfer? Worth a shot :p
 
It can be used without the nut but as said the gear markings wont line up straight. The nut can be got at any decent hardware style shop.
