Well lads.

have noticed that puff of blue smoke after hitting the vtec has got worse over the last while. looks like a feckin steam engine going down the road, anyway i drive a civic with a b16a2 engine and want someone to tell me what makes a smoky vtec and why if possible. i have heard people going on about valve stem oil seals but i cant see how that would make it smoke only on the vtec as those oil seal are always surrounded by oil when the engine is running. i wont go on any more. thanks to anyone who helps shed some light on this.
Cheers

It will be piston rings if you rev it and smoke comes out. valve stem are when the car first starts up in the morning and a puff of blue comes out or when you let off the throttle.

Could be a couple of things mate. Either the piston rings are on their way out or as you said, stem oil seals.

when I got my EK4 it was smokey on vtec it got better in time though now doesn't really smoke as much but it wasn't blue but black smoke so I guess overfuelling still it would have been some amount of overfuelling to justify the clouds I was putting out

have decided i will take the engine out and strip it down, new type r high comp pistons, new rings, valve stem seals and all the gasket replaced. i noticed today that there is oil leaking from the corner of the head gasket. will send the head to be skimmed and if all this doesnt work a nice b18 will have to be got. my dad thinks im mad and should be driving a micra. cheaper but ya gotta have the vtec
