Hello, I've already decided on getting an ek9 so this isn't another annoying thread saying "but I was thinking about getting an ep3, which one is better?".

I've spotted a 97 ek9 close to me in Somerset with 64k miles, self-imported and grade-4. From the advert and emails with the seller it seems it's been well taken car of (full underseal etc.) and from his spelling he doesn't come across like a chav who would be racing around a McDonalds car park (but that's getting a bit Sherlock Holmes).

So my question: being a 97 model with 64k miles and if it is grade 4 under inspection how much should I do be offering realistically.

I wouldn't go away unhappy at the asking price but then 'money saved is money earnt' I could start ploughing back into the car.

Checking eBay motors and PH - the price should be 5.5k (but those prices are mostly from dealers).

Cheers,

ek9dreams

we have a good few members that have owned both ek9 and ep3, all prefer the ek9. Furthermore the ek9 is faster in the straights and in the turns, it is the better car and clear winner. Who knows what the next CTR will be like but currently the ek9 is the best CTR and the first there has ever been.

The person who is selling it will have a price in mind! i have seen ek9's with similar spec, condition going for 5500 to 7000. How good is the interior? One thing in your favour is the credit crunch, people not buying cars and others needing to release money quickly!

Is your name Luke by any chance?

If so, I think thats my EK9 your talking about but im not sure :) if any more questions then feel free to ask :)

People on here and swc can vouch for me :)

I would vouch for most of the people on this forum, including you :nice: but are you really selling your 9? What do you plan to buy next?

Also to the OP the condition is a huge factor in the price, i seldom see 9's below 5000 pounds...

Haha small world! I've had a huge amount of interest in selling my Golf so I'm confident it will be sold within a week, though I just phoned my insurance company and the quote I've always been going by is apparently "incorrect", even though I said ek9 until I was blue in the face they managed to work it out for something else!

I think for a decent 97 grade 4 in VERY good condition throughout (good seats, wheels, tyres, bumpers ok, engine bay v clean, original paperwork) 64k miles you should expect to pay £6k - £6.5k.
Thanks Duncan

Yeh I also had problem with insurence companys getting it wrong! got there in end though! and insured at 20 for £1300 fully comp.

let me know if you want any more details about the car, there is also a build up of it on this site!

Cheers

saying that, I managed to pick mine up for 5.2K around 3-4 months ago and was a 3.5 Grade, wheels immaculate/interior immaculate bar drivers seat which bolster slightly torn, nothing major, paintwork immaculate no scratches etc and engine was super clean and only covered 63K miles...... And is a 1998 model....

I think there are good deals to be had, but i suppose your generalizing it.... i guess i just got a very good deal, i was shocked myself to be honest.....

Yes a grade 3.5 will be cheaper in Japan so could be cheaper to sell in UK. There isn't anything wrong with a 3.5 just means it will need more tidying when it gets here.
I think the safest bet if you havn't purchased a Jap import and especially a Type R is ideally look at grade 4's, buy from a reputable dealer or club member and ask for the auction sheet.
Finally grade A or R can be OK but only if you can see the ORIGINAL auction sheet. They can get these grades just because the bumper or say bonnet was repainted. It could well be a grade 4.5 quality but listed as a R or A.
Good luck Duncan
