Yup another Spoon Sports ECU thread.. I just bought one a few days ago and fitted it to the EK9 yesterday morning. It's safe to say that I've emptied half my fuel tank already lol. I did a bit of searching and it appears to be a Marmite thing. It is in a sense a poor man's remap (kinda why I bought it lol). But it really does give a different feel to the car.

Compared to my OEM ECU it idles so much more better. It used to rev and drop between 1-2ks on idle (I've had the IVAC cleaned). but now it just idles at 1.5 and slowly drops down to a steady 1k idle.

VTEC is another story of course, the OEM engagement at 6200 is like a nice pregnancy kick. The Spoon's 5500 vtec is just noise, and then gradually at 6100, around the OEM VTEC point, you can start feeling a wee "push", maybe this is when you give birth.

But enough shite analogies, I quite like it. It is mental how it goes up to 9100, but I don't think I'll be taking it up there that very often in case I blow the engine lol. I won't be remapping until I have more mods done to the engine so the Spoon one will keep me happy for now, as I've just got an AEM v2 and an Apexi GT 4-2-1 as my breathing mods. Just thought I'd share my experience :p

Heard a few people blowing the engines using they ECU's mate. Just be careful, sure they are ment to be ran on 100ron fuel as well.

I'd sell it (going rate about £300ish) then get it mapped properly for £300 (just buy a p28/30 for £60)

You can run it on 99 ron as well. I have one on my S and I do quite like it. Especially with the N1 lol I am looking to go for a proper ECU though just to be safe!

Yeah I got mines for alright price. Yeah, I've always used V-power/ Tesco Momentum ever since owning the B16B in the EJ9 before it got thrown onto the EK9.

I know Logan, a bit feart revving it that high but the VTEC devil on my should telling me to keep going lol. Apparently B16Bs have a higher limit and at 9100 is okay as long as you're not always going that high all the time

I've had mine on car for about a year and half and love it. the car runs so much more smoother and my emissions dropped a bit. I think the way vtec kicks in is designed better for track. I told my self the same thing wen I got it that I wouldn't rev it often to 9k but u just cant help it the sound is awesome. but a little warning is I wouldn't do it to often coz I've notice my car is using a bit of oil now it never did before.

It was on egay for 180quid final price? I would have paid upto 150 for it....because my mfactory gearing means the car tops out at 115-120mph and I could use a few more mph for snetterton and sil erstone straights when I race there.

Plan b is getting a proper map but thats a lot of hassle for a mostly stock b16b.

haha mine was burning a bit on oil on the OEM ecu but then stopped after everything settled. Aye that's a good shout lol, I should actually check my oil just in case lol. That would have been good for you haha

total waste of time

go see Henry and have it mapped proper on crome - i ran a spoon ECU then sold it and had the car done by Henry proper, night and day difference :nice:

every car is different that's why a generic tuned ecu can't be ideal for all builds.
remember a user from here had checked his equipped with spoon ecu car with afr gauge
and it was running pretty on the lean side !
