i was on here the otherday talking about getting a s300 and map for my b16b 9 but now kinda changed my mind and thinking about getting a spoon stroker kit and s300 then have it mapped etc... Yes the stroker kit is abit more costly then just getting b18 crank etc but i wont to be on the safe side and know everthing is new... Think i got a place that will do most of the work but whats your thoughts? Full spoon kit and then a s300 with my new bolt ons? Cheers for any feedback and help..

If you have the cash and want new bits then sure go ahead. Personally I'd try to find an unopened B18C or C6 - will be far cheaper plus you'll still have your B16B to sell. Sure it takes a bit of time to find a good engine but oem rebuilds imho don't yet make sense (as relatively healthy engines can still be obtained). Spoon stroker kit is what, couple grand? Plus labour on top....

You may be better to sell your b18b and buy a good b18c and drop it into the car and save a whole load of hassle and cost

Depending on who does the work on the engine, if the motor is not built to the same tolerance and specification that Honda would do then it may not be reliable.
I also have a feeling that the Spoon stroker kit is not available to buy any more but its basically a Honda DC2 crank, Honda DC2 pistons, DC2 rods and a Spoon head gasket (this has been known to give trouble unlike a genuine Honda head gasket)

If my old B18c is still for sale from MarkMckay on the forum then I would highly recommend it, the engine came out of my 99rx fresh import DC2, it had roughly 70k, didn't burn any oil, pulled very well with dyno printouts of around 215bhp. I only sold the engine to Mark because I went with a K20 conversion and Mark changed his plans and bought a DC5 instead of fitting the engine to his EK4

The stroker kit is 1300 and i think my mate at spoonsportseurope can source a kit for me fingers crossed or they for sale for 1300 on another site.... But honestly my problem is i will not take NO chances on another b18 engine i rather get a stroker kit and know what i got and have no problems down the line with a replacement b18 no matter how sweet they say it runs, i know its all anot savingg money for the same outcome but i rather peace of mind on what i got.. I think il get a s300 first then hopefully find a spoon stroker kit

There is no way you will get a Spoon stroker kit for £1300 if they are even available, the price you seen must be years old... iirc the crank alone is around £1000

Again just in my opinion and from what I have seen from people rebuilding Honda engines is that the reliability depends on the engine builder and the quality of parts used and of course the quality of machine work. Do you plan to bore the block you have and fit oversized pistons/rings then?

http://www.inlinefour.com/spoon18lstro.html What about that site? 2000$ so roughly £1.3k???? God knows il find out from spoon sports europe tomorrow if its more then 1.5k il leave and just get a s300 and map with my bolt ons and performance autoworks would do most of the work so depends on money at the moment and i know what your saying mate

By the time you got it to the UK (shipping plus tax plus duty) you're gonna be well over £1500. I would take a second hand unopened engine over anything a garage in the UK build up, all be it from new parts. The only time you hear of B series engines failing is when people open them up. That's why I got another B16B from a newer lower mileage car than was mine. In the end after I broke my smokey engine for spares and sold the bits I didn't want, and I almost broke even. Now have a better engine that I have every confidence will not fail unless I forget to change oil for 3 years and still have the old block in case I want to build a high comp engine in the future.
If you have loads of cash to burn and want an awesome reliable engine take £10k and get one of the Spoon blueprinted engines :)

Hmmm god knows mate like we see what the final price is before i think about anything... See your point tho

Well if they ship it for free (which they won't) the price in the UK including taxes is gonna be over £1600 (Engine Parts have an import duty rate of 2.7% and a VAT rate of 20% ), shipping will add easily another 100-150 quid.

I have a brand new S300 with OBD2B - OBD1 harness for sale ;)

Realstreet sell forged b18 cranks from eagle for like $700 or something.
Then a set of rods.....

2years ago I was going to do the same thing and in the end I sell my b16b and bought a healthy b18cr 96 spec with 100k on it and I pay just 200euro on top. SUPER HAPPY now:dance:

surely if 'your mate' works at spoonsports europe , he could recommend someone to do the work for you?
