Just thought id share a little experiment im doing at uni
Its basically to measure torsional rigidity of different style chassis's.
The models im using are made from card as you can see. Using a jig to measure the deflection(twist) of the structure when a mass is applies to the opposite side. Basically by applying weight to one side of the structure the opposite side changes in measurement from the measuring point and by this i can measure the torsional rigidity using:
T=mgr ............. torsion=mass*gravity*radius
I tested a normal chassis with a window screen, one with out and convertible.
And now id got the design a convertible thats now lighter and has a higher torsional rigidity factor , think im going possibly try one with a glass fibre bottom.
