Hi sorry for posting this on this forum but I'm just curious. I was reading through a turbo build of someones civic coupe on a Turbo D forum based in america and the guy put vitara pistons in his Z6. He posted a vid of starting it up for the 1st time and it sounded like a diesel/tractor???!! how is that? It made about 250whp when it got tuned!! :drive:

the reason I didnt ask the question on that forum is I cant seem to become a member on it. dont know why it just wont let me sign up! :angry2:

Could have been many things frm open downpipe through to bad tuning at idle. I wouldnt worry about it :)

vitara pistons in the past were a tad too small and had excessive piston/wall clearance which leads to "slap" it was not enough to be detremantle to the engine but enough to make it sound like that, newer after market versions of the vitara come in larger sizes now iirc.

yea I noticed on his build up him saying and showing pics of them being too small. Do they make more power or are they just stronger than stock pistons??

they are stronger than stock pistons because of their beefy ringlands but also drop the compression considerably which also allows most users to explore 20+psi rather easily.

Let me help you answer as well, Being from the Dseries family myself, I would like to say, The diesel sound most likely came from a particular rod the guy was useing. Most tunertoy custom rods make that noise as well as some eagle h beam rods.
The block sometimes depending on the rods must be shaved at the forward and aft portions just under the pistons for clearance. Most folks dont do that. They just put them in. But with a Vitara set up making power it all depends on the piston, is it 8.5.1 low comp or 10.9.1 high for the power ratio.
Low comp with high boost will produce in the upper 200's and very quick. So to make the power in the 200's a good tune is in store and recamended, But dosn't have to happen, hell the guy could be on a p72, or p28 chipped ECU with crome and produce that kind of power on the Dyno.
Fuel Curved must reach the upper 700's for combustion to stay at ints leanest at full throttle. Tune tune tune is the key. I hope I have helped. If I have not then someone correct me. Thanks Cube...

Very very acurate. Boost can go on all day without fail on a good Vitara set up.:nice:
