lol yeah not the fastest car in the world by they have there charms and are faster than most people give them credit for, but i want the controller for the look of it they look the part on the dash all lit up

Complete waste I money.

Best thing about the ek3 is the economy. A vtec controller will no doubt ruin that.

I'd imagine you can fit one, but will the cams make any more power lower down?

You'll probably find it'll go bwaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAA and make no more power until the original VTEC engagement point.

doubt you will feel it "kick" after you fit one. The SOHC's only have high lift on the intake valves as they only have the one cam, pretty sure thats the reason you cant feel it like you can with the DOHC.

The EK3 VTEC-E is different to B series VTEC,the engagement point depends on vehicle speed, revs and engine load, so there is no set crossover point like there is with VTEC. Also, the cam profile only changes on the intake cam and all it does is that it opens both intake valves fully rather than only one fully and one partially, which is what happens when the car is off VTEC-E. This allows for lean burn and improved efficiency, which results in lower fuel consumption. So while the D15Z6 is technically equipped with VTEC it is no faster than other D15 engines, just more economical. Also, you say the VTEC kicks in late - this is not true, the highest RPM the VTEC-E will kick in is 3500 rpm in 5th gear!!!
So, all you'd achieve by fitting a controller would be removing all the benefits (low fuel consumption and emissions) and gain absolutely nothing. You might as well get a non-VTEC D15 then, as it will have the same effect. Also, I'd be worried that if you raised the VTEC crossover point to say 5000 rpm you might destroy the engine, there is a very good reason for Honda not allowing it to run lean at high RPM!

cheers for the good explanation lad would an sir brain make any difference as the car only revs to 7000 and id like to extend the rev range abit further

Best option is a b16a cheap conversion these days

i wouldnt convert the car lad the engine is very low milage and economical be a shame to take it out plus a conversion seems to be more expensive to insure than a factory ek4, the only benefit is my shell is very very clean as far as rust goes, im just gona save up and and do it right and get either an ek9 or even a dc2 or a jordan as for obvious reasons it would suit me lol

vtec controllers are a waste of money, you'd need to have the car remap'd to alter the vtec point properly and adjust the A/F ratio to suit it.

cheers mate mite just put a 4 branch and straight pipe on her and leave it at that and just buy an ek4 when i can

You will be able to buy an EK4/9 sooner if you stop spending money on the EK3 lol. Honestly, I understand why you want to mod it, I got the bug myself, heck most of us do. But I wouldn't bother with the EK3, keep it clean and well maintained and just enjoy driving it. The car is nippy enough to be enjoyed for regular driving and the fuel consumption is very good. I'm thinking about buying another one as a daily, I loved my old EK3!

yeah they are a great car but its hard not to mod lol insurance is the only thing stopping me atm as im still on a provisional and every week thers an expense so its hard to get the money for the test but hopfully after the holiday in june i can get down to buisness

Keep it half standard and just enjoy it,ano what you mean buy hard not to modify. Been there lol think I've modded every car I've had in some way, best thing to do is buy something that can be removed and put into the ek4/9 when you get one
