vtec issue

Hey all.

Over the past week or so I noticed that when vtec was supposed to kick on it sometimes did and sometimes didn't, or kept going in and out of vtec and not staying in it up through the revs.

But now it's just not going into vtec at all..any ideas why this might be? Cheers for any help.
 
First id check your oil level then Id clean out your vtec solenoid.

If that doesnt help, then its possibly a shagged oil pump/bottom end bearings and bottom end rebuild :(.
 
Well the oil was quite low, noticed the light on the dashboard flashed on very quickly on my way home..ordered some silkolene pro s from opie oils so hopefully it will be sorted when I top her up.

Surprised how quickly the oil's gone down though...do ek9's generally use a fair bit of oil?
 
Yea alot of vtec engines use oil. Some more than others. Very important to keep an eye on them and keep them topped up..
 
Ok fair enough..only had it a few weeks and I did check it the other week and it was fine...have to make sure I keep an eye on it!
 
What is the oil like.. When was it last serviced? Old oil will burn quicker
 
Your oil light came on? That isnt a good sign dude :(


If this continues to happen. Id take it to a garage and get them to check your shells/crank bearings for scoring etc.
 
The oil light can be an indication of a low oil pressure and that would explain

why the vtec only works occasionally. Are you having any speedometer issues?

Yeah but only for like a second then went straight back off again...happened again today but I've been taking it easy going into work, my oil should be arriving hopefully tomorrow if not will be the day after. I'm having vtec withdrawal symptoms :angry2:

Nah not having any speedo issue's this is the only thing wrong at the moment!

Slightly off-topic here...but one of my rear lights was out so I was checking it out and noticed the bulb holders are nothing like the bulbs that halfrauds sell..had a feeling they might not be the same fitment, being japanese and all, but I'm wondering where I'd source the correct bulbs from?

Lad would you not just go and buy a liter of oil and put it into the engine.. Its real bad to be driving your car when it is that low on oil. 1 liter of oil wont cost that much.. Driving around even not hitting vtec is still so bad for your engine..
 
Sorted dudes...cheers for the advice. Stuck about 2.5/3L of oil that I found in our garage and vtec is working fine now. My silkolene came today too so all is well. Really good service from opie oils!
 
2.5 or 3 liters into it.?? How fecking low was it? The engine only holds 4 liters lad...Hope you havent done any damage
