What should I get: LCD or Plasma TV?

hi u all, i thought i would post a thread on here, because this is what i sell plasma tv's and lcd and other things like this, because i own a hifi shop. well there are alot of people who say this and say that and u will allways see atricles saying different things but you cant believe them.

if you are going to go for a 32 inch tv or lower size than that, then go for lcd becuase they work better at that size. anything above than that you would go for a plasma. and plasma's are a much much better picture than lcd by far. and for burn in, u dont really have to worry most of the new tv's dont really get burn in it usally just the older 1's, and you wont get burn in on lcd anyway. as for what blinx said because i cant be bothered to explain about lcd and there crap colour of black is totally right, how can u shine the colour black u cant, that is why plasma have a better picture because they can just turn a pixel off.

as for 720p and 1080p and so on with all the other things, well its not really true. obviously 1080p gives you a better picture but not on all telly's, but thats what most people think. for instance if you look at pioneer they only use 720p and it is by far the best telly on the market, i gaurentee you wont find a better tv out there even if it is 1080p. but if you want something amazing then get the new pioneer they have just recently launched there new 1080p plasma's and they are somthing else, i think they are the best thing since sliced bread. just check for yourself.

i wouldnt buy samsung, sony, toshiba, phillips, and loads of other cheap brands because i tell you why. all of these are south korean brands, the problem with these are yeah they look good when you go into these shops because they are all playing hi defination on a speacial disc to give you a really good picture to impress you. but what i am trying to say is that south korea has had hi-defination now for eight years and all there broadcasting is only on hi-def, when you put these telly's on normal tv the quality drops dramticlly and most people think wat the ****. i mean they do work allrite on hi-def bt thats all.

if you want something better than that, that can give you good quality and reliabilty go for japanese brands, like sharp, panasonic, hitachi, or even pioneer which is the best but they only make plasma's and there smallest tv is 42 inch. but all of these brands will work very well both on hi-def but on normal tv, because truthally only about 10% of your tv u watch will be in hi-def at the moment anway.

i just thought i would say a few things and let you guys know, because i dont want you to get ripped off.

Thanks a lot mate for your reply, even though you make my choice more difficult now and you put me into deeper thoughts with the special disks etc!! :nerv: Can you elaborate more on normal and hi-def viewing pls? Why not to have hi-def on all the time? Am asking elementary questions because I'm completely noob with hi-def stuff :)......is not a common technology here also.
Why you think Sony is not that good TV since lots of people recommend it??

Why not to have hi-def on all the time?

a high def TV does 1 thing, it displays the signal it recieves. almost ALL broadcast TV is NOT high definition, its analog, which is 480i IIRC. the high definition tv cannot convert analog to HD, it can only display HD if it recieves an HD signal, if it recieves a standard signal it will displayin standard resolution.

like if you put in a HDDVD or a blueray disc then its getting an HD signal and will displayin HD. or if you have access to HD satalite or cable tv, then you can have more HD chanels, but the basic chanels will still be analog, i know here in the USA we only have like 25 HD chanels  so even if you have an HD tv, most of the time when youy watch normal tv, it will be in standard definition :( the only reason i see for hdtv is for gaming or movies.

Anyone tried LG LCD? Is one of the few companies that have full control over the production even if it takes place in countries with cheap labour like Singapore, Malaysia etc just like with most of the other brands.......

Ok, I bought yesterday a Sony Bravia 26" with code KDL-26P3000. It's P-series, one of the tenths out there for Bravia(S,U,T,W,V,X etc), and because I couldn't see any noticable difference from the others I picked it up....3000 means it was released as the latest line of production.
Impressions? Well, the picture quality, colors, contrast, brightness, and sound are incredible trust me I was impressed! I receive numerous channels from a satelite and they are all of the same quality! Analog channels aren't displayed very nicely but since our analog channels are crappy here I don't care...
HOWEVER, I realised that the TV suffers from serious motion blurring, infact is very irritating for the eye to follow a movement in some cases. I've been experimenting on it today and I've noticed that this problem becomes very obvious when watching football. Strangely, in basketball, boxing isn't that noticable, perhaps is because the cam moves smoother.....for example, while the camera is moving around, the grass is severely distorted and it looks like synthetic plastic and fake, and the ball is followed by itself, even with the slight movement of the camera, but when the cam stops momentarily, everything looks stunning and you can see ALL the details like watching the game live!!

As far as I know all LCD's suffer more or less from motion blurring, so is not like a Sony's fault or something.
Conclusion? I believe LCD's aren't a ready product for consumption yet, and they shouldn't be released with this con, it's really pity to pay all that money and say "Ah, it's better indeed from SD but......" like getting something unfinished :(

Anyone experienced blurring when using Blu-ray or even with HDMI cable? :nice:

Motion blur is depends on your refresh rate. The best LCDs on the market right now have 100Hz refresh rate. Sony and Samsung right now have them.

Check your refresh rate, if its 60Hz, its old technology. But you shouldn't worry at all because you have a 26" which is small and smaller LCDs are slightly better anyway.

I have SONY V-series 32" 60Hz and SONY is known for the colour depth detail quality.

Nothing goes past the X-series 100Hz LCD in my opinion.

Plasma is only good if your buying a huge 50"+ and can't afford LCD. But PLASMA really needs to be 100Hz and 1080i in order for it to compete with top line LCD. PLASMA is also dull compared to LCD.

Anyway, you've got a good buy. Luckily its a sony.

A nice bit of info-
Antenna - Three ways to get HDTV programming
1080i vs. 720p
True HDTV programming is typically broadcast in one of two resolutions: 1080i or 720p. Most networks have opted for the 1080i format, boasting that it provides the highest possible resolution, while ABC, Fox, ESPN/ESPN2, and the National Geographic Channel went for the smoother pictures of 720p. What's the real difference between the two? While 1080i technically offers the most lines of resolution, it's delivered in the old-style interlaced format, meaning that your TV set draws each frame in two passes: once for the even horizontal lines and a second time for the odd lines. The 720p (progressive) format has fewer lines of information than 1080i but draws each frame in a single pass, delivering pictures that look slightly smoother than an interlaced image, especially when there's a lot of movement on the screen. Most videophiles agree that 720p is the superior format, despite 1080i's resolution advantage. For average viewers, however, it's hard to tell the difference.

In my work, my boss bought 3 40" LCD HDTV, but the problem is that there is no high definition dvds, or HDTV cable , just normal cable.

The image quality SUCKSSSSS, Its like watching a 10 year old real video video hahaha

I think thats the price of mixing technologies :)

At last!! No more dial up! No more loads of money for internet! It happened these days our telecommunications authority(semi-govermental) brought ADSL equipment to our village after years and years of promises.....

But I'm lucky because it happened now that I bought the Sony Bravia. Using the ADSL router now I can subscribe for another service(miVision) offered by the authority and through the router I can have access to 40 digital channels for an additional fee.

I'm also a subscriber to another service(Nova) and I'm receiving additional 40 digital channels through a satelite. No more analog stuff only HD!

The monthly subscription fees are a bit heavy for my pocket :( (50 Euros for Internet access, 50 for miVision and 50 for Nova) but because I'm TV addict lol I cannot resist :D

Does anyone have access to similar service through the Internet?

Router quality > Satelite quality

I got the LG LCD and I love it. My friend got the Plasma and I'm not to much of a fan of Plasma.
