What to buy Ek9 or Ej9

Hi, currently 19 years old with no NCB.

got a 1.6 peugot 307 atm but really want to get rid of it and buy a civic.
insurance on 307 atm is 2.3k and have got a qoute from my insurance on a 1.4 ej9 to be 2.1k. [LV Insurance]

i dont know a great deal about civics but does the ek9 only come as a 1.6?

was hoping if i got a ej9 1.4 and after a few years with some ncb i could do engine upgrades.

just after a nice car i can do work on

Try and get insured on an ek9 but it will cost a bomb it's a type r, import, 1.6 your best bet is the ej9 and work your way up :nice:
 
well well well, this is a very good question,
us lot over here, we hate ek9s. so getting an ek9 would be MASSIVELY frowned upon. theres quite a large fan base over here for landrovers
sorry had to do it, its too hard to resist!

it may be just a 1.6....but has the words type r on the back, and is also alot quicker than an ej9. and totally a different car so your already mental insurance which by the looks of it costs more than an actual ej9, would be through the bloody roof on an ek9...i wouldnt go near one!

if my insurance was that high id just buy a gwizz or a smart car with a hamster running under the bonnet.

Recomend any good websites for buying? Tried pistonheads but most have 120k mileage, this is high for most cars. and for hondas lol? avoid these hile milage ones?
 
Mileage on a Honda doesn't matter the only problems are rust on the arches etc and make sure it has good service history! There a few in the for sale section on here your best bet are forums as they have been looked after etc but there are some on pistonheads, autotrader and gum tree!
 
Where are you based? I am actually going to sell my EJ9, its got 65k miles on it.
 
honda its one of the most simple eseay car to work on as far as millage dont worry about the a honda engine still a baby at 200k as far as it was service on time all is life just look arroud the body for rust they usually get the cancer on the rear quater panels but if its clean the most you can worry about its to get it tune new belts and thats it
 
also as far as ej9 or ek9 i would go with the ek9 since you know your money its safe since ek9 dont lose that much value as ej9 just mi oppinion

is rust a problem with hondas? or all cars and just warning me of the rust?
if the car did have rust would there be anyway a garage could sort it? if so im guessing it would have a big bill?
 
at that age i would go EJ9 or EK4 ether one there a outstanding 1.4 you will be happy and you can do a swap, i dont know alot about cars but done a swap from my 1.4 ej9 to 1.6 VTi.

there such good engine mate my 1.6 can rip my friends clio sport 2.0 cup that has 200bhp:)

type r EK9 as said just because its just a 1.6 its performs as a hole nother machine dont let it fool you lol worth checking but i think it will cost alot

maybe try looking for a converted EK4 or EJ9?

orrrr if you can get a civic VTi insured then that would be brill to. There great cars and keeps up with things twice the size of it :) HONDA Power Of Dreams ;)

obs i would love a EK9 but got to wait till i can afford it and im 20

Depreciation is going to be a drop in the ocean compared to a £5k per year insurance premium.
 
If you can afford it mate I would go ether VTi or EJ9 or get a converted EJ9 and take the risk but you dident hear that from me lol
