Which OIL recommended for the B16b

where are you from and how hot does it get in your area? What size radiator do you have?

You can try using those two weights you have suggested to see if it will help bring down the temps a little before any other mods are performed.

im from ireland. I currently have the standard radiator, but im getting integra rad installed in few days, so hopefully that should bring the temps down a bit
thanks

i think for this question the best i have to ask is oppie but i want to know and from other guys that have experience on oils too. :)

i use motul 10-40 chrono on my b18c i use my car daily.
im worry about that says on the back of the bottle :

"100/100 synthetic oil specially designed for racing cars "
i dont have a racing car i use it daily !! :nerv:

also says "developments originated from Motul collaboration with racing teams"
"exclusive motul formulation providing the highest performances"
maybe this oil is for racing use only !??
"qualifying and racing engines operating at high temperatures in a wide rpm range":nerv::nerv:

also a friend of mine that used this oil before me said that after 5000km it becomes like water !! and that oil is made for 10 engine heat cycles ..

what you guys think i should change brand/oil?

Ok this look a bit dead I was using Valvoline VR1 10w40 before was pretty good to run in summer weather it felt a bit sluggish as the weather got colder so Im running Valvoline SYN power 5w40 so far so good

VR1- semi syn
Syn power - full syn

I find the VR1 it revs better then the Syn power I dont know why the grade is different or the temperature

I'm using Castrol Magnatec as well because it gives many benefits. It is a synthetic based engine oil.It provides more protection than conventional engine oils during start-up and warm-up when up to 75% of engine wear can occur. It protects during all driving conditions and temperature.

well just read through all this thread and still cant make a decision on which oil to buy... pretty sure i should go for 5w30 ? which one shal i buy from opie?

*edit* nm now, bought some silkolene pro s

Dont get too excited abouyt Magatec, very strong marketing.... Not such a great oil.

They are all 100% mineral base, and IMO over priced for what they are.

Cheers

Guy

I bought my first Civic '93 10 months back and someone told me, when ever I change oil, for me to use 5w30. I use started with cheap oil, dont even remember the brand.

On youtube, a did ask a guy who use to race on tracks, he told me He uses Mobile 1 full synthetic. I could not get it, I started using Valvoline SYN Power 5W30

I could feel it make engine run very good.
Once I enter a car shop, and saw the MOBILE 1 FULL SYNTHETIC.
It was 12.00 US a quart. I bought it without reading further, made my oil change, then I notice it was a 5W50.

And now my engine has a sound coming from under the valve cover. A taping sound tiki tiki tiki, but it sounds only when the motor is cold.

I'm going to move back to Valvoline 5W30

royal purple is great... used it in my DC5 during track days and it was still in great condition after two full days of lapping.... i guess anything appropriate for the weather or temp you run in and high film strength is good... royal purple for track days and mobile 1 for off days....

yesterday night I got my B16B swapped into my EG6.

I notice this morning the oil level measure is higher then the max level.

I wanted to give it a service as I dont know when the previous owner did the last service.

But the oil looks clean!!!

Should I drain some oil out to have it at max level??

Or is it ok to keep it like that?? It is half way higher then the max level

you measure your oil on straight surface ?
also engine is cold when you check oil?
half way higher then the max is more than normal !
drain some out !!
and change your oil soon you never know how old is that oil in there maybe it looks good but you dont know if it is in there over 1 year !

Has anyone used Eneos oil products? seems to be a high grade oil but i have no experience with it?

I don't know a huge amount about Eneos, but by coincidence I had a look at some of their stuff for a customer today. I wasn't overly impressed. The prices (that I saw) were pretty high and the videos I saw on Youtube reminded me of a couple of other manufacturers who hype their products, but those other manufacturers produce overpriced average oils or harmful additives. Like I said, I don't know a lot about them, but I didn't really like what I saw.

There are plenty of brands such as Silkolene, Millers, Gulf, Redline and Motul that produce proven, brilliant oils that do a great job that I would stick with those. We only stock brands we trust. There are other good oils, but they are often overpriced or are no better than what we have, so we don't sell them.

Ive been reading all your post & NO one ever mentioned how many liters do you need? I changed my oil the other day with shell helix ultra fully sysnthetic 10w40. When i measured my oil it was on the 2nd hole on top meaning maximum, right? i used around 4.2 liters. Is that correct?
