Ok so I've been around this site now for a good couple of months, but not posted before so hi there people.

I'm gunna be buying an ek in a few months but I'm in two minds to which one, the vti or type r. Price difference of about 3grand for the car then 600 for the insurance.
The car will be somewhat standard for the better half of a year. I know its only little things in the difference between the cars, but if you had to chose what would it be and why?

Vti and 3 and half grand in the pocket or a type r?

Oh I should add that eventually it will be possibly a sleaved b18c turbo or a k20 turbo.

I'd go for the vti if your planning on doing a swap anyway, be careful though that it aint rotten with rust though. In around the sills and rear arches are the kill spots for civic's!

So the vti is gunna be the better car for my choice? how are they like as standard compared to the type r?
I've heard their not as good handling wise and understeer a fair bit

Most issues can be solved by modifying but the best way to think of it is the EK9 will have all of the bits as standard that most people put onto a VTI, so spending out in the first place will save you cash in the long run.

I would get an Ek9 personally and modify that as a modded one will be worth much more than a VTI would.

Deffo go for the VTI.

In comparison,VTI's will keep up with a 9 to a certain extent. But for the money saved you could hypothetically spend that 3.5k and have a car which will beat standard 9's and dc2's all day long

:nice:

I'd go for an EK9, the chassis is way stiffer than an EK4 chassis, handling stock is MUCH better. My last Civic had coilovers but I find my DC2 so good stock that I do not want to change it. And besides that, count up all the costs to get an EK4 up to EK9 spec....not cheap! Wheen you start to mod you can also sell EK9 parts which will yield more money than EK4 parts. I'd deffo go for an EK9. Big difference between them, if not in the engine then in a lot of other aspects.

EK9 all the way. Having owned both, the EK9 is definately the one to go for. Stiffer chassis, this is definately noticeable, all round better suspension setup, better looks, Engine is great (even if your not keeping it). The mods would cost a fair bit to do to a VTI as _JT said. Plus the EK9 is more special to own in my opinion :nice:

I'd get a non-vti if I was going to stick in a B18 and then spend all my money on upgrades.

I think that the ek9 will always be the best alround choice, but when you can get a tidy 1.4 ek/ej for under a grand and have loads left to spend on upgrades / making it how you want - just something else to consider :)

i would go for a vti mate owning a jordan before, if you find a minter of a vti for a few grand which is still achievable today as i bought my jordan for 3k last year bodywork was just as good as any imprt and still allowed me to do stuff to the car without spending silly money.Yes i agree ek9 standard is a far better drivers car but if your going to modify then you can make a vti into as just a good car

id go for a vti as i have a jordan with has been fully polly bushed and breathing mods and its a great handling car

Sorry its been ages since replying last, hasnt let me log in for some reason....

I have a mate thats building a eg track car, gunna be helping him seam weld the chassis, was gunna do mine at the same time before paint.
so if a 9 drops into my price range, I'd enjoy that more? is the jordan same as the 9 apart from the obvious

Erm nah mate, I am pretty sure the Jordan is the same base as a VTI, just a limited edition on and slightly faster. Im sure somebody will correct me if wrong :nice:
Personally I would go for the EK9, i've heard it handles much better and the looks so much better :))

jordan and vti are the same apart from ghastly interior, wheels etc.

ek9 is a superior car in every respect.simple.
search technical information on the ek9 and best motoring vids and get a test drive in both cars to see what i mean.
