Will EK9's depreciate even further over the next few years?

the price willl goes up, because it already had.
i have been importing jap car for more than 10 years now.
there are few model that the price had gone up.
1. r32 gtr
2. r34 gtr
3. ae86
4. ek9
5. ps13
6. ef9

the main reason was they dont make any more.

But i dont think the price in UK will goes up, specially when there still have fresh import.
if you can keep your car in good shape and as much as history, than i think you can sell it for a good price.

ehh, you can pick up a clean R32 GTR for cheap as hell, for what it is :(

dont think they'll go down any more than what there at already as said they will probably go up the more people smash/break them etc its sad to say but normally true.

In the short to medium term the ek9 is going to DEPRECIATE in price. Fact. you only need to look at the for sale section to add credence to this. Rare as the car is, plenty are up for sale at any one time, and some have been sitting there for quite a while.

The one that have sold fast are the ones whose price refects a REALISTIC market value for the car.

Indeed, if you want a clean import, then it will cost more, but people are getting this confused with exampes that are already in the country. The strength of the pound to the yen is still at an historic low and this is evident accross the spectrum of imports, NOT just the ek9.

Just because its 8k to import a nice one, DOES NOT mean your one that has been here a couple years is worth that.

Next, there is a little game of sheep going on here, or to put it another way, a cartel. There is alot of influence on how the cars should be priced when owners sell up, and it only takes one to lead and the rest will follow. Its skewing the market.

the disparity between the ek9 and dc2 in terms of pricing is evident, and that people consider an ek9 to be twice the car of a dc2, well, it speaks for
itself.

and finally, on to the last point in relation to the question. Regardless of what it is, its still a small cheap hatchback, always has been, all be it a very good one, and there is no getting away from that and so there is only so far the market will stretch to accomidate high prices.

Now, the specuation. The ae86 corrola is a good eample, but so is the escort cosworth and the old mk1 and mk2 escorts, along with a swathe of other fairly low volume production iconic cars. The EG6 SIR-S is another case in point, but you dont see them priced much higher than the standard SIR or SIR2, and yet THE SIR-S may well be one of the rarest cars honda has produced over the last 20 years. I stand to be corrected of course.

The ek9 will inevitibly get more rare, but even if it does, it wont ever fetch the kind of prices we are seing today for perhaps another 10 years. It would have to become exceedingly rare and exceedingly sought after, neither of which i can see happening to be honest as many potential buyes will settle for the cheaper and nearly(VERY COMPREBLE) as good ek4.

For those that think im on some sort of tirade against the car, or the owners, well, **** you, becase I have wanted on of these for a long time, 5 years plus now i think, and in fact came fairly close to buying one earlier this year, and I know how good they are, I have plenty of knowledge about them, but for now I just cannot justify the price.

^ Half the posts I've seen by you are just moaning about EK9 prices! And suggestions of EK9 price conspiracy theories! Haven't you been waiting for like 5 years to buy an EK9? If you'd bought one 5 years ago you could have had 5 years of enjoyment and only lost £1,000 - £2,000 pounds*, even with a recession! Which is amazing for any car, it has held its price brilliantly even though it is one of the most susceptible cars to the recession by being old, fast and somewhat of a luxury and expensive vehicle when compared to most other cars in the same price range!

If there are people out there who wait five years for the price of a car to go down so far they can buy one then it must be a VERY popular car and will therefore retain its money very well. Plus, as I said previously, there are bucket loads of people after EK9 parts so EK9's will resist going below a certain price, in excess of £5000, which is the sum of its constituent parts if broken.

A recession is U-shaped, all the prices which go down, go back up at a later date, there are people out there buying up as much real-estate as they can for just this reason.

The AE86 owes much of its success to cartoons like Initial D which glamorized that model. The GTR has a similar story.

EK9's typically are not as hyped up as others. A cartoon series for the EK9 would help but bad publicity could ruin the image just as easily.

Therefore I think its impossible to predict the value because there are too many factors to consider. Just enjoy what you have and dont count the pennies.

Depreciation has been totally exaggerated by the reccession in the last few years. Not much any of us EK9 owners can do about that.. but as the cars get older the depreciation should be levelling off more & more. The cars that'll be worth good money in, say, another 10 yrs will be the really low mileage, mint condition, un-modified ones that have been stashed away & barely used.
As cars have more safety & emmisions tests to pass, it seems unlikely there will be any raw, exciting, naturally aspirated hot hatches in the future. They should still appeal to enthusiasts who want a 'cult' car.
These comments apply to ITR DC2 as well & I think the prices are linked slightly because of the similarities between the 2 cars.
ITR's seem better value than EK9's at the moment & this is probably bringing EK9 values down a bit imo.
Mark.

dont think the few low mileage examples will drop in value much. the on modded ek9's will hold their value well just gotta wait out the recession. i come from a ford background and unmodded examples of escort cossies still fetch upwards of 14k and they are a few years older than ek9s.
not wanting to put a downer on things but i see quite aot of ek9s being written off/broke for parts the last year. can only have a bonus effect on the remaining ek9 values.
i've not seen or driven another hot hatch lately that i think compares to the ek9. most newer cars are softer with more electronics such as traction control etc. that said i dont think the ek9 is better than any car ever invented

see these 60-70 year old guys driving about on summers days in 60's sports cars......well in 30-40-50 years that's gonna be us lot....and were gonna want the cars that excited us when we were younger.

not only is the ek9 one of the rarest honda's, it's also one of the most highly regarded.

in 10 years time i think a mint ek9 will be worth more than it is now
