Hi just wanted to see if anyone can help.
Started to strip my EK4 gearbox so I can put some pieces in my 98 spec s80 box but when i opened up the box out of my EK4 it had these ratio's
4.266 FD
0.875 5th
1.107 4th
1.458 3rd
2.105 2nd
3.320 1st
Now we have triple checked these numbers and there right, but i've got no clue what this box is the only stamp on it is F5 so i can only assume someone has put 5th and the FD out of a Y1 box into mine. :nerv:
Just wanted to see what you lot think.

No I checked that but the 4th and 5th out of a s9b are completely different to what's in mine. I think it is a s4c box just someones decided to fit a 4.2fd and 0.87 5th out of a Y1 from a CRX must have faniced a gearbox for cruising
To be fair its abit pointless now as im going to us a 98 spec S80 box just wanted the shorter 4th and 5th gear out of this mystery box.
Just wanted to see if this was a factor box or someone just wanted to make a box with a short 5th gear and a super long FD.

You've got a shorter 5th and a longer final drive. So slower acceleration through the gears and still as buzzy in 5th. Bizarre.

Those gears will still be good in the S80. :nice:

Ye its defiantly a bizarre combo had to check it a few times just to make sure. It looked like the original sealer as well and my old man said it looked like it hadn't been apart before so maybe Honda ran out of 4.4 FD and S4C 5th when they made my box :p

Ye worked out ok was worried when i measured the FD that I had a S9B box and would have buggered then but 4th is the same as a S4C and actually that Y1 5th is a fraction shorter then a S4C one. So should still get rid of the big gap between the ratio's and figured spending my money on a decent gearbox will give me more performance/money then cams or anything will. Especially since im going from a 4.2 to 4.7 FD now :nerv:

I had my B18 put in my EK4, we used the S4C gearbox. I had a Kaaz Diff waiting to go in. Pez rang me to tell me it wouldn't fit and that the box had a 4.26 Final drive, very strange as i have had the car from new, and it has only been to Honda before that. No one had ever been in the box, and the car was only ever at the garage for no more than an hour, so that rules out any naughty stuff.

Hmm is strange, I think it will just be a case of those where the parts on the ench when the boxes where originally made. Still a worrying thought though, be interesting to see if anyone else has had the same problem.

Think i have the same box 1999+ si had 0.875 5th and 4.266fd (written in the oem honda 1999 civic supplement
Do you remember the bolt pattern of the 4.266 fd ?? 10 bolt like the ek9 ??14 to find a eg6 sir2 lsd ??
For swapping lsd in mine in the future if i want to keep my fd

Did the standard vti non lsd box not come with a 4.2? There was one in my car when i got it. Is it a lsd or non lsd box?

vti normal is non lsd.also s4c like the ek9
is your vti a 1999 or 2000 ???
Maybe 1996-1998 had only 4.4 fd
NRTeam.org

99+ si 4.266 is real i think
