Jesse888 Forged/stroker turbo ek9

Yeah no screamers going to suck, perhaps I'll hear vtec alittle better now so not all bad.

Had some work to do on a friends car so progress on mine is slow.
Got my exhaust off, it's seen better days.
Home brew exhaust that ive added silencers and stuff to over the time I've had it. My welding isn't the best as mentioned before and the heat wrap has done a number on my exhaust aswell.
3" system goes on the winter refresh list.....

Shows new silencer compared to the old one. Not sure how clearance will be, will try and tuck it up as best I can

I know @Rich777 had similar issue of debris suck up as well, could be interesting to see how his looked as well

Sorry I'm late in on this.

Jesse, that oil pump has failed from oil contamination - I'm 100% sure. You need to work out what exactly is causing the oil to become contaminated. It may of been from the assembly, or it maybe from something else not so obvious.

Quick question, is your rocker cover powder coated? If so, was the inside powder coated or not ? (I know this may seem a little random).

It was painted. I got abit of paint on the inside of it through the filler hole.
I've been finding bits of white paint everywhere. Would have thought that the paint wouldn't be strong enough to cause such carnage to the pump.

I'm happy your so sure that it's oil contamination.
I've just remembered that I used the old water-oil cooler that was on the b16b when it blew the Piston, so possibility that it came from there aswell as the oil pickup.

Everywhere, found it in the pickup tube, little bit in the sump iirc
Vtec solenoid mesh
Filter

I know you told me to make sure it doesn't get in, I ran the filler cap through the threads afew times thinking that would be enough, clearly not...

I know it may sound a bit strange, but when an engine is turning at 8000 rpm it doesn't take much to destroy an oil pump or the bearings. I'm pretty sure it will be down to the paint. I've seen exactly the same with powder coating too.

Yeah I'm open to being told I'm wrong, way you learn.
Will clear it all out thorough and hope it's going to run sweet.

Track day hasn't helped, With the temps the overspray has mixed in with the oil and spread everywhere. Jeez must of been a lot of overspray.

I hope it works out bud. When I painted my valve cover and sump I taped everything up and made sure no overspray could get into the internal sides ..especially any threads as paint can fall in once it's dried when cap is screwed on and off.. Spent ages making sure everything was super clean. My ocd kicked in big time and I made sure everything was spotless I used plenty of degreaser, fairy liquid and boiling water even a jet wash lol. Last thing I did was clean inside the sump and valve cover with a microfiber and some clean oil to pick up any fall out. Flushing the engine on idle isn't a bad idea too with cheap stuff. Went bit extreme after hearing about Rich's engine.
It sounds excessive but it saves hassle. But hey you learn. Cleanliness is key. Don't forget to flush out your oil cooler, Again clean oil is fine. Oh and your turbo oil lines and under your valve cover. Take you time with it bud.

No I appreciate everyone chipping in with their experinces and advice. Helps me cover a wide range of possible causes in one hit.

You running baffled sump? Did you weld some plates in? If so check the quality of the weld and any weld splatter as it can come off so easily and case serious damage. Have seen some shocking welds in the past that are just hanging off and loose.

Yeah the sump baffles have been in for a good 3-4years now.
There is some small weld spatter in it but they've never come loose.
I'll grind them off as a precaution anyway.

Update,
Nothing exciting.
Ground off weld spatter in sump, washed sump and rocker cover out twice each with soapy boiling water and rinsed thoroughly.
Got a brand spanking new oil pick up pipe

Bought 3 filters from tegiwa and some more oil.
Gone back to my old faithful gulf 10w-40.

Was thinking earlier what kind of spanner reuses an oil pickup that's full of broken piston/piston ring? I mean I fully deserve whatever I've got coming to me for that kind of carelessness!

So I had a look up the cylinders today with a torch.
Very faint scores in the cylinder bore from the Pistons skirt. All four cylinders exactly the same.
So I can safely say the machinists didn't set the clearance to 0035? @Vtec6000
After getting them to check to twice aswell!
Now the swarf that would have no doubt come from this has no doubt got into the pump and caused the failure?

Next question is do we think the Pistons will be ok? I can still see the black wear material on the piston with each cylinder at BDC so it must be the very end of the skirt that's catching it.

Those scored on the cylinders are from oil contamination most likely.

Ideally you'll want to strip it all down and thoroughly clean everything. It doesn't take much to start the process off again. Everything needs to be totally spotless.

I've since taken the block and Pistons to another machinist.
The clearance is correct 0035" but he said the block is filthy and you can't build an engine with all crud hanging off the block. He said it's likely dirt or something caught caught in them during assembly.
He said Pistons are reusable and the block just needs another hone.
Getting a proper wash on the block this time round and hopefully this will see me right.

Got my fingers crossed that it all works out this time mate!

Me too lol means I got to run it in again which is pita but atleast I've got another shot at seating the rings properly, last time was wayyyy to much idling.
