More breathing

  • Skunk2 Alpha Series Throttle Body
  • Skunk2 Pro Series Intake Manifold
  • Tegiwa Carbon Induction + home made cold feed ftw

  • Time to start cleaning this bay up

Intake Manifold off

  • Just a case of removing all piping and water feeds, you can drain your radiator before doing this.
  • On a untouched b16 the intake manifold sits on a brace underneathe, can be a pain but once the piping and wires attached to it are removed, you can loosen the bolts that attach it to the manifold.
  • Remove the fuel rail/injectors
  • Remove the bolts of the back of the intake manifold and remove
When fitting a after market Intake Manifold with a thermal intake gasket you WILL need extended studs .

  • Prepping and checking over the new intake manifold. You can start building up the intake manifold/throttle body off the car.

  • Finally got this little bugger of with its headless screws, TPS was at .500v before removal checked with a volt meter, you do this by earthing the meter and probing the positive pin in the TPS's connector.

  • For us b16 boys that have the intake temp sensor in the intake arm itself, you need to blank the type r / b18 position. I made a little plate for this and bolted it down with a light skim of gasket sealant

8557_10151698280599859_1237944462_n.jpg

  • Reverse the procedure. I removed the OEM support bracket.

  • Attach the TPS and adjust it whilst checking its position with the volt meter, tricky but doable. Tighten her up and done! I did it with the throttle body off the intake manifold before assembling.

All done guys - now to run her in and let the ecu settle etc, and ofc see if there are any leaks etc. Sounds brutal now eh :nice:

Benefits so far

  • Drastically increased throttle response
  • No dip/hesitation on gear change
  • Noise and lots of it
  • Vtec is now more noticeable at the rear end which means less pressure on the engine side of things now she's breathing better.
  • Butt dyno says a few ponies added but for best results this kind of combo needs mapping to gain full benefits!
These added bonuses result in a much livelier drive, she feels great and responsive and eager to go.

Cool build man! Keep it up!

Was there a big difference in the way the car drove after changing from the Eibach's to Skunk2 springs? Was the ride improved? Less comfortable but better handling? How did it affect your car?

Still waiting on the Skunk2's to be delivered, should be picking them up today some time, were meant to be here last week but no luck, doesn't bother me though Im not in any rush, but I thought it best to sort out some complimenting parts before I go and just change springs alone.

Ill update the thread with suspension stuff soon.

Ok buddy thank you :) Looking forward to reading more about it!

And btw, you bought the Springs or the Sleeve kit?

Just springs, LCA's and planning on a camber kit and rear lower arm for now just to stiffen things up and make sure shes sitting right. Coilover's next year as funds are spread across getting the car to a basic spec all over atm

Clean up time and some weight reduction!

So basic choice of weight reduction is removal of the rear interior.

So went about and did the following -

  • Fully removed all sound deadening
  • Rear seats removed
  • Brackets for belts etc removed
  • Full sand down of rear interior/primed/painted
  • X Brace
  • Skunk2 Low profile washer kit
  • Custom Valve Cover
  • Tegiwa Cooling Panel

Quite an easy process just fiddly

  • Remove rear bench
  • Remove all plastics
  • Remove plastic covers and clean off glue with alcohol
  • Pull back the wire loom on the rear panel and tuck it away into the arch
  • Pull down boot rubber out the way
  • Remove rear lights
  • Mask up windows and holes exposing exterior underside panels
  • Prep with 400grit-800grit
  • Prime bare metal
  • Paint/clear

Next job was cleaning up the engine bay.

Started to freshen things ups and this is where Ive gotten to over the weekend

Smoothed off valve cover. I prefer the cleaned off look but left the Honda.

  • Strip paint using Nitromors or an industrial paint stripper, nitro can take awhile to bubble off but will get it eventually. Clean the old paint with some soapy water, dry it off and smear plenty of the stripper on and leave for a good half hour or more and watch it bubble! But don't breath the fumes.
  • Scrape the paint of with a scraper or jetwash it off, should come off really easy at this point. Any stubborn bit you can scrape off or sand with some 120grit paper.
  • If you want to smooth of the valve cover then go ahead and grab yourself a hand file and get to work, take your time and try not to mark the cover where not needed. (You can use a grinder with a flap disc but I did mine by hand)
  • Take some emery cloth or some 60grit paper and get to work on the area you filed to smooth it out work up to a 120grit or so to remove those scratches.
  • Check over the area and degrease it to remove any oil/dirt/finger prints you may of got onto the cover while working with it. I use sugar soap and rinse with water afterwards, you can use good old fairy liquid and water but rinse it thoroughly afterwards and let it dry, or cheat and use a heat gun ;)
  • Mask up the holes and tape around the breather. I use masking tape. Tape over the holes with overlapping lengths and gently file around the edge to create a perfect patch.
  • Use some Etch primer and build 2-3 light coats or go straight in with some wrinkle paint of your choice. No need for high temp paint!
  • After letting the primer cure, I usually leave mine a few hours in a warm room ( I used the airing cupbaord). Preferably 24 hours if you plan on sanding which I recommend.
  • Always step up in no larger than 100 when sanding primer. I start with a 240 and move up to the 300's when sanding primer and use straight horizontal lines. For this job your primer should be nice and smooth so so start with a 400grit and allow the paper to do the work, nice and easy with a light spray of water/soap
  • Blow it off with a heat gun or hairdryer if you don't have an air line and wash it down with some sugar soap or soapy water and rinse it down and dry it out.
  • Get your color in a rattle can and give the surface a light flash coat of paint and allow 20 minutes between coats. 2-3 coats is good.
  • Allow the coats to dry and apply your clear coat in the same way but take your time and don't go too heavy or it will run especially if its cold which I would recommend against painting in anyway.
  • Allow this clear to cure 24/48 hours before your final sand/polish. Use an 800grit and move up to a 1000grit and gently wet sand to smooth the area out to allow for that shine.
  • Get some cutting compound and just as you would your car, polish the rocker cover to a nice shine!

  • Primed and painted Pastel White

  • Designed myself some personal anime girls and stuff on it. Easiest way to explain it but its something personal to me and unique so went ahead and did it. Very dusty at this point but just test fitting.

Little update - Skunk2 Springs and LCA fitted.

1074089_10151758822204859_2061213379_o.jpg

Another picture after its settled abit. Handling is immensely improved and ride height is low but not too bad.

Hit the 40k mark so thought time for some new plugs and a service

She's been running well -

  • Got some BKR7EIX's at a good price. Testing them at the moment, will pull them and inspect. Running very nicely on them. I always prefer copper but they were cheap.
  • Cleaned bay some more, odd's n ends cleaned and painted.

  • Old plugs after a few thousands with mods. Running well.
