You would have to lower compression
Raiden why are you comparing 2 different engines? They have completely different piston designs. While i don't doubt 280bhp can be made reliably with a good tuner and high octane fuel the issue is that is only 238whp, most people who turbo there car are after 300whp or more so what will you do when your car is finished with the turbo then 2 months later you want more power? You will turn up the boost then blow up your motor, this happens to nearly every turbo b16b owner, you simply can't make enough power safely to be satisfied. The evo9 turbo is actually an outstanding match for a Honda motor as long as it has the larger turbine housing.
Do all this at your own risk but i strongly advice at least a .050" or 1.3mm head gasket, this will bring you down to 10:1 which is much safer.
Keep in mind it is rumored that the design of the b16b piston causes it to be prone to hot spots and poor flame travel due to its massive dome, many believe this is the sole reason of it failing in turbo setups while the ITR has dome is much smaller and flatter compared to the sharp angle of the b16b pistons.
Why dont you do as i have done and stick a set of b18c5 pistons in the b16b ? This will bring your comp down to around 9.2:1 which is good for boost. Your playing with fire turboing a stock b16b...
Where can you get the b18c5 pistons from?
Is the b18c5 the american equivelent to a b18c mate?
Will the b18c5 pistons work with the b16b rods? If this is the case, how would they lower they compression to 9.2:1? Would they not simply take the compression to the stock b18c compression?
I read it was 11.1:1?
Cheers
just wait, i hope to get install pics and dyno graph soon but projects going to be delayed by 2 weeks though, i have to go visit my father from 01/03/07 to 01/13/07 its been awhile and if i dont go now i may never see him again i dont know how old you guys are (im not that old myself) but im sure some of you guys know what i mean.
never say never!! we will all meet up again one day ;D
what do you guys say about supertech parts? (pistons, valves, etc.....)
gutted mate
I am in the same boat really except with a b16b.
However, Ricky has been doing builds for a while, and has a seriously good rep, even with turbo'ing stock b18c's.
Artech tuning have turbo'ed a fare amount of stock b18c's too, with amazing results...with reliablity still being key.
After all the information I have siphoned through, I am confident it can be done, as long as you have a good enough tuner that is experienced in mapping high compression turbos.
Have a readup on honda tech too bud. They are some seriously informative b16b and b18c turbo threads on their
