me and my brother are in the process of building an EK9, but we are starting to want different things from th eproject, so im toying with the idea of going it alone for what im after.

the car will be used as a fast road/track car. it will have nothing this is not needed to make it run. money will be almost no object at first, so i would rather get the biggest bits first.

im thinking of going B18 (not sure which one yet) or building my own B20. which would you choose and why? and any other suggestions??

X2 k20 (or even K24 ;) ) you'll find videos of how awesome these are in ek civics on YouTube :nice:

Money no objection? K24 block with K20A head.

If was me , k24 but out of the 2 choices in your question b18 , good power & reliable , take a bit of abuse

how much will a K24 be?? i thort the Kseries had alot of headgasket problems??

money is ALMOST no object, but i dont wana go blowing all the £3-4K i will have saved just on the engine!

how much should i be looking at for a decent B18, B20??

That's the Rover K Series. ;)

I wouldn't look at a K24 then.

Well, you might get some change from £3-4k if you decide to go 'built'. :p

Personally I would go sleeved 2.0 B18C. Or, for shits and giggles, sleeved B16B.

Oh, 3-4k, imho that means money IS an objection. It's a nice amount to get a good engine for, but certainly not enough to go all out :) I think I'd go with Kozy's choices then.

Honda K24 build and installation will easily set you back 8k euro's I think if you do most of the work yourself.

Yeah you're looking at roughly 6 grand for a k20 swap

ive spent 6k on my car in the last 4 months and money is defo not no object for me i need it lol

unless your looking to race in a certain class go for b18c with some nice quality bolt ons, remap and a final drive

but if looking to stay 1.6 go for the same as above but think about a close ratio gear set

b20 is a good engine if on a budget no replacement for displacement over b18's & b16's

i`d sleeve a B18 block. much cheaper parts to begin with and a more raw feel compared to K`s.

in terms of the B18C range, whats the B18C4 like?? theres a few on the bay thats going cheap enough for me to throw a load of money at rebuilding the internals, but i dont wana thorw money at it if its not going to perform and last.

the B18C-r, if i could find a decent one for sale, thats still for sale when i get home, i would probably snap it up!

i think b18c4's are good especially for the money and you can do just as much to them as any other engine so if you look at it from a money pov it could be a shout

With a 3-4k budget you'd be best with finding a complete low (ish) miler B18C-R (B18c6 UK) swap, then spend the rest on brakes, suspention and maybe a gearbox rebuild.
