172 clio or 182 !


Agree they are fast and very fun to drive but in terms of engineering, reliability and design civics are in a different league. Clio's and majority of renaults tbh are plagued with engine/immobilizer/gearbox and air bag faults. Also IMO the gear change is horrendous along with the interior design, pedal lay out and seating position.

But on the plus side the are IMO very visualy pleasing and incredibly fun to drive when they arent suffering faults!
 
I would not agree with the clio being faster. I have raced a 172 in my ek4 and I pulled away from it without much trouble. Cannot comment on the handling of a clio. Never actually been in one but for me I would say a 9 would win quite easily.
 
What engine was in your ek4? They are neck and neck with an EP3 so if standard the other guy wasn't trying. Mine is 8 years old now, only thing that broke was the heater rheostat, £20 job done. Anyway the OP has bought a car now so kinda pointless discussing any further, if someone wants a spin in a 182 I'd happily take them out.
 
B16A2, 4-1 98spec mani, skunk2 exhaust, decat and dc2 airbox. I also pull away from my mates EP3 till about 70-80ish and then he goes past
 
and trust me the other guy was trying he had at least an exhaust system and I could hear he was going for it when he dropped a gear.

ek9 is in a different league compared with a clio
Apart from straight line speed the ek9 trumps it everywhere else.

I would agree and I would also say in a straight line as well.

Last year at crail there was a few clio 182 running around 15.3 (in standard form)

and my mates ek9 was running mid-high 14's with only exhaust and air intake.

Also was in my friends EK4 SiR at the time and he was beating EP3's up the 1/4 miles with only breathing mods.

Went to view the car today and wasnt happy with the condition off it ...
It was 4 and a half hour train journey there and 4 hours back!
Cost me £240 for tickets alltogether as payed for my mate.

Bit annoyed but whatever, you live and learn :)
Havent a bloody clue what to get now.

Starlets EP82 or Glanza EP91 are a good choice as well. I had an ep82 about 210bhp was very very quick. Only thing is the engines cant take alot of abuse (compared to a civic)
 
just get a 172 cup, spend some on freshening the belts and jobs a goodun and still enough change left to go jump in bed with some hookers!

lol love it, your comparing a modded ek9 against a standard clio, what would happen if someone chucked a exhaust and air filter on the clio?
 
the engines are actually very good, its the people who dont look after them

Just looked through auto trader and pistonheads and theres nothing that catches my eye so going to take a chance at something different, jap preferably :)
 
I personally love them although I've never been in an older one and the new one I have been in was driven by my mum so can't really comment lol.
As said how about a starlet?
 
No starlet just looks Like a smart micra imo, and the interior is worse than a Clio cup plus they are pretty unreliable as the majority off people who get them rev there tits off , really dont know what to get !

Tbh I dont think an exhaust and filter would gain a second on a quarter mile so I would be very confident the 9 would still win.

Just my view as I would hope a standard ek9 would beat my lightly modded ek4 and I can beat a clio sport with an exhaust system
