Pissed off!!!!!
Last night i was driving to my mates house at about 2am, i was following him but wasnt really paying attention. He turned off to the left on to a junction and i didnt notice till i had passed it, so i quickly pulled into the next junction, but didnt realise it was a one way road. Then i pulled out and started to follow him again. About 2 seconds later a police car went past, span round and pulled me over... we were doing the speed limit, and driving perfectly sensibly all night.

So now i've got a £60 fine and 3 points on my licence... im 17 and have only had my licence 3 days... so now my insurance has rocketed! from £1000 a year to £3000....
does anyone know if its possible to go on a traffic offences course instead of getting the points? If not it means i gotta sell my car because there is no way i could ever afford that.... :( :please:

Well you beat me i got mine 5 days after i passed! But they came off yesterday!! (stay on there for 4 years) If you really were doing nothing wrong then you can always contest it.
What did they say they were pulling you over for?

I was doing something wrong, i just went down a one way...
and i got slapped with all tht ****.... i just believe its extremly harsh of them... i thought they would just warn me but no.....

gutted! I really feel for you mate..its only been 3 days since you have had your license?! I also would of thought the police would give you just a warning or a pep talk.

What you have done is nothin major major so you might be chosen to go onto some sort of course to get rid of your 3 points. I actually was watching of the similar kind on TV. Enquire about it..but im pretty sure that you cant apply for it..they only choose you if you have got your points for only a minor offence.

You must of had the same copper I did when i got my 3 points.

Driving down a main road and got stick behind a rust bucket of a pickup transit van, the idiot was doing between 15mph-20mph, his brake lights were on and off like a strobe light at an acid rave. Bearing in mind it was a solid white line, but there was no traffic on the road, either side, so i decided to over take. About 300 metres down the road was the roundabout. What exited the the roundabout as I pulled back in...the old bacon on the beat! Theres me thinking oh bollocks thats me done, especially as the turd in the transits was flashing his lights at me, but no they had a good old look but carried on and disappeared. So carried on, got down a no way system what pulls up behind me, them again, blues and two's, the lot. Turned they did shadowed me till I got into a more built up area, because the twats reconed i was going to a runner, pretty extreme i thought lol. I explained what happened and had no of it. To top it off made me wait half an hour because the wankers didnt have a plenty fare book and had one brought out especially for me...oh i felt so privildged -_- dicks!
My insurance went up over double and im still paying about 500 quid more than i should. Plus i carried on paying, purely because they laughed and said 'dont forget to tell your insurance', yeh its a bit of a squeeze on cash but Id pay it for a car i love, than pay less on the insurance for i car i dont want.

I dont know if it will do you any good, when I did 'Pass Plus', which takes one or two lessons, you dont have take a test at the end and it takes a pretty big chunk off your insurance. Have a look mate, hope it helps you!

I know how you feel mate and good luck with whatever you do!

i got pulled in bude for going down a one way got let off with a warning and breathalised as id had one beer they said i would've got 3 points if they were traffic cops, still i think there should be a slight bit of leeway in some cases but in the eyes of the copper you're just another power trip/pound sign :( not good being 17 matey i had 3 points within 3 months of driving was paying a grand on a nissan micra at the age of 19!!

Sadly there's no courses as far as I'm aware (there is one for bikes however that writes of the points), the only options you've got is to either contest it or take the points.

Well that's the case here in Devon anyways

I don't see the point in owning a performance car if you only use the power for a trackday once in a blue-moon so I've told myself that if/when I get caught speeding and I get points I'll just buy a cruiser-mobile like a BMW 116.... Though I never drive in a way that puts anyone else besides myself in danger.

Pretty harsh though, I don't know anyone who would deliberatley drive the wrong way up a one-way street so it seems stupid they'd think you did it on purpose.

forgive me but why would you bother notifying your insurance company if it goin to go up that much ???

you went the wrong way down a 1-way road?

well, there you go, thats what you did wrong.
they legally cant give you points unless you did something wrong, so it must have been something mate. sorry, but thats the way it is.

yeah u went down a one way road thats your problem. same as a mate of mine did the day he passed . slapped with 3 points and a 60 quid fine . just what u call tough luck tbh

I had a plod van do a lap of a roundabout and follow the other day after they saw me overtake on the approach to the roundabout.

Cue me dropping from 5th to 2nd and ****ing nailing it. I mean proper ****ing nailing it.

They didn't stand a chance. :win:

Unlucky mate, the police man sounds like a right wanker to me. I hope you can get out of it some how.

Otherwise when you claim, they will say you misled them by not telling them about the points and won't pay out.

surely tho if it goin to go up by that much you better off takin that risk...i mean you only goin to claim if you crash into someone so if you thrust yourself that shouldn worry you too much :nice::D

You may as well drive without insurance then and save even more money.

I trust myself, but if a deer jumps out into the path of my car or my tyre explodes on a motor-way or any other 'act of God' then I'd be buggered.

And if someone hit into me and they had void insurance because they didn't tell their insurance company about points I would then have to pay out which wouldn't be fair as my premium would then go up! So it's a stupid idea all around

not really because drivin without insurance will get you put off the road so it stupid to even sarcastically even say you may aswell save more money by buying none at all..if an act of god happens or even if my car was stolen i wouldn even claim because the cost of your insurance would go up so high it would not be worth claimin..and if someone hit you with void insurance you would still get 75%of the cost..why do you think we all have to pay an extra premium into insurance for when people are hit by someone with no insurance...so only way you will get found out is if it your fault when you crash into someone else....an frankly that is a risk i would be willin to take if it stopped my insurance goin up by nearly 2000pound...and taking forever to come back down again...so no!!!not mentioning points is not the same as taking out no insurance !!!rant over haha:nice:

If you choose to drive around with invalid insurance then that's up to you, obviously you think it's the better choice...

I got done last year for avoiding someone crashing into me! What happened was me and a van were going up a slip road onto the motorway and i was pretty much level with the van in the inside lane when he pulled into my lane without looking so i had to swerve onto the hardshoulder and he breaked and i managed to pull back in infront of him. However as i was doing this the police came round the corner behind me and it looked to them as if i was undertaking dangerously. After explaining what happened to the cops they decided that they couldnt prove i was telling the truth and fined me 3points and £60 for driving on the hardshoulder!

In their eyes i was in the wrong and still thought i was undertaking and their words were " you need to be tought a lesson" i had my girlfriends sister in the car who explained what happened as well but they were having none of it and threatened to take me to court, take my car off me, fine and ban me all because i didnt want someone to crash into me. Think it was harsh but then again it s done now and my insurance only went up £100.
