4.78 final in an ek9?

Do it! I think every single NA b16b must have either FD or Gearing mod if they expect to be fast.

pordon me blinx for forgetting to put the question, can i just fit in the s4c EK4 non lsd with this oem 4.785 fd without installing the lsd.
cheers!!

Better wait for MF or RA to post, i am far from a gearbox expert :( I would however urge you to delay the installation, save up a bit longer and add an LSD into the mix though :nice:

my 1.6vti (EK4) is non lsd s4c tranny :(( and planning to fit the ITR 4.785 fd in it. some says, i do need at least an oem lsd to fit the fd in, and some says, it should be fine to just plug n play.all the items, 1st gear, collar, counter shaft, ring gear and 2 bearings are all complete.

hope any other fellow friends who encounter the same question before could leave some comments.:secret:

cheers!!:drive:

If you want to fit the oem ITR 4.785 FD to your EK4, then you will need the following parts:

- the oem 4.785 FD :p
- the oem 1st gear/collar/bearing from the same tranny the FD came from (either EUDM ITR, or JDM '98 Spec ITR)
- either the oem ITR LSD, Integra SiR Open Diff, or aftermarket LSD designed for the ITR

However, if you want to install the MFactory 4.785 FD to your EK4 instead, then you will need the following parts:

- the MFactory 4.785 FD, and that's it :p

Our fitment is made specifically for your transmission, so no other parts are required for installation :)

Pardon my ignorance, to get my ek9 s4c tranny to be exactly the same that the ITR DC2 SPEC 98+ s80 one, I'd just have to change the pinions for 4th, 5th and final drive ??

Car JDM Integra Type R 98+ (LSD) JDM Civic R [EK9] (LSD)

Type Hydraulic Hydraulic
1st 3.230 3.230
2nd 2.105 2.105
3rd 1.458 1.458
4th 1.034 1.107
5th 0.787 0.848
Reverse 3.000 3.000
Final Drive 4.785 4.400

Yes, you would need to change 4th gear, 5th gear and the final drive.

Gears, not pinions ;)

Pinion = Countershaft = Output Shaft = Part of the Final Drive.

Retail price for 4th and 5th Gear is around $340

Please don't change the 4-5 gears to 98spec.... you'll lose the manic pull esp. if your car is not a B18.

Hmmm I saw in the "History of the Type R" video from Best Motoring Mr. Ichishima saying that his tune for the ek9 are: Stroke to 1.8L (with spoon products), Change the oil pan, lower the car a bit and close the gear ratios !!!

I also saw gan-san saying that the gearbox is no the best for uphills, he also recomemended a changed to a closer one (ITR DC2).

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

The EK9 4th/5th gears are shorter than the ITR '98 box (they are about the same in terms of closeness though). The 1st/2nd/3rd are the same. The only advantage the ITR '98 box has over the EK9 box is in 1st/2nd/3rd due to the 4.785 FD.

So, should the FD be changed to 4.785 and the 4th and 5th gears remain intact?

Yes, I would recommend keeping your current 4th/5th and changing the final drive.

Alternatively, you could install a close ratio gear set instead ;)

Thanks MFactory, do you know an website where I can learn more about this and/or buy?

Anyone else has an opinion regarding this subject?

You can learn more using all 3 links in my signature :)

Damn, that is great info, FD change would do good to the 9, yet would like to see a dyno chart on torque, HP and a final speed chart beetwen a stock ek9 and one with the FD changed to 4.785.

Great info indeed

There is a dyno chart on our website, under the Final Drive category.

That gives the perfect explanation!:nice:

So how much would it cost for the 4.928FD & the 1st, 2nd & 3rd gears for my EK9 B16B? would I have to rebuild my gearbox and get another LSD and I already have an exedy clutch and fidanza flywheel so would I need to change them or does all the above depend on the condition they are in??:nice:

My car is a daily driver, alot of motorway miles, no track sessions just 1/4 mile a few times a year so would like 5th gear to be in a sensible rev range but have the power in 1st, 2nd & 3rd for 1/4mile??:nice:

thanks:D

The dyno graph explains the importance of rpm and its relationship with acceleration.

THIS thread explains the importance of torque multiplication and its relationship with acceleration.

As you are a DD with some 1/4 mile use, I would recommend changing your 1st, 3rd and 4th along with the 4.928 FD. You do not need to change your 2nd gear.

If you want a compromise between rpm and acceleration in 5th gear, may I suggest the 1.000 ratio? This will lessen the rpm drop between the 4th-5th upshift and offer a slight improvement in acceleration.
