Aftermarket LSD - which oil?

hello guys.

is there any new infos or findouts about gearbox/LSD oils in those 2 years?

I just bought ATS 1.5way Carbon LSD and would like to know what oil is best for it using it in EK9 gearbox.
Until now i have always used MTF3 oil in all my honda`s gearbox, and wouldn`t even come on my mind to use any other, as MTF3 is best, but as i understand for plated LSD`s MTF3 is not good.

So if there is any guy who is using honda gearboxes with plated LSD`s on track a lot and have massive expirience, please come out and share your expiriences.

cheers

i switched to cusco lsd oil from mtf, made no difference at all....

MTF + Friction Modifier as needed

I have read hundred of pages on forums, found quite a few old post from you where you wrote torco or amnisol + ford friction modifier. Did you in those 3 years found out that mtf3 + friction modifier is better?
I am not lookin too much on money, more on syncrhos and lsd.... I am intendind to change oil on every 2000-3000km.

Cheers

my apologies, I just meant MTF in general (be it oem, Torco, Amsoil, Redline etc)

So mtf3 + friction modifier would be good for synchros and lsd? What is about some say fully synthetic oil is not good for plated lsd....

Still didn't get any straight answer.

Will throw out some info for easier To imagine.

I have b20 eg9 with ek9 gearbox with 4.7FD and ATS 1.5way Carbon lsd and new synchros. I am using car just for track days and would like to put something in that won't destroy my synchros and LSD. As said, will change oil regulary on 2000-3000 km.

Before i had oem lsd and quaife atb lsd and have always used mtf 3 oil, but what i have read in these days, plated LSD's need other oils or some additives. But still i am not sure if that is true for Carbon plated LSD's or just for metal ones.

Anyway, what do u sugest for my aplication?

from personal experience torco oil with friction modifier is terrible , well with a kaaz diff anyway

i had a kaaz diff in a y21 box with kaaz oil it was silent and worked perfect, changed to torco and the box was horrible, the diff was so extreme and very loud with this oil, personally id use 2 litres kaaz oil with 200ml mtf

Just so you know, Kaaz Diff Oil = Torco RGO + Friction Modifiers ;)

May be good to use with the diff (i.e make it silent), it isn't good for the rest of your transmission as RGO is too thick.

^cant remember what torco oil i got(must not have ben the rgo) but it was recommended to me by someone and used the friction modifier and it completely changed the driveability of the car , it was unbearable.

Did you try decreasing the lock on your LSD? Setting up your LSD properly is far more important than using a band aid to try fix your problem. By using friction modifier (of which the Kaaz oil has it in spades), this is technically what you are doing.

Gear Oil is a lot thicker than Transmission Fluid; this is why you are hearing less noise. Coupled with a tonne of friction modifier, you now have a silent, clunkless LSD that you could have achieved the same result with by going for a maintenance free Helical LSD as well as getting a better shifting transmission at the same time.

If this is only for the track (assuming circuit/auto-x), then you shouldn't be concerned about noise. My advice would be to stick to the MTF that you have had the most success with (be it oem, torco, amsoil etc), adjust the lock of your LSD to what you require and then add some Type-F Friction Modifier to "fine tune" the lock.

Isnt the Torco MTF rated at 75w90 ?

Transmission Fluid doesn't have a rating; only gear oil does. Torco MTF is based off the OEM MTF + additional additives. It is the same viscosity as 10w30 motor oil.

Sorry that should have read RGO not MTF. Just see its 80w90 on Torco's site.
