Hi,

Signed up to this forum as im looking into buying a Civic.

I'm 17 at the moment and currently drive a Vauxhall Corsa:nono:

Recent payrise at work now means im looking into buying something with a bit more poke, hence the Civic. :)

Obvisouly at my age not looking for an EK9 Type R. I'm really just after something simple to serve as a base for a project. I'm getting the car however I can, maybe a 1.6 or something, so it's cheap for insurance and that. I'm going to do all the mods I want, etc stripped out rear, cage, suspension, brakes etc, then after my years no claims comes around i'll transplant a faster engine in.

So yeah, sup.

:welcome:

I think a ek4 is a great option for you! :)

Only snag is EK4's are a high insurance group here something like Group 17.

Probably best with a 1.4 Civic Sport or something which is a group 7 will still be over 2k for a 17 year old though. Insured in his own name. They are quite nippy and a good base to a great project imo.

Group 17 insurance sounds like its gonna be pretty bad. I can get insured on company insurance with my dad if I have too, but atm the standard 1.4 is looking a good plan. Like I said after a years no claims I could always drop a b16a2 in there, insurance permitting.

Welcome mate...try the EK3 1.5 Vtec. Wont be a bad little starter. Strip the hell out of it and it will be spot on..

yup you have got to start sometime. My lad was 17 last year he got a 2000 1.4 Civic Sport and it was £2300 for his first year.. but he has had some good quotes now he has turned 18 But he did pay an additional £400 a year for alloys..

The other upside is you spend the year making the car as tidy as you can pick up some parts, get your no claims up and sell the car as there will always be a good market for the 1.4 .

Both the 1.4 and the EK3 look good options.

McJazz - Thats the plan. I'll be doing everything I can without putting the insurance group up too high. Going to start looking and the 1.4 and EK3 then.

ek4 vti is a group 14 insurance i am pretty sure

ek3 is a safer bet you group 7 insurance and if you look out for 15lsi it got vtec =) though only sohc so little practice before stepping up to dohc vti hope this helps

the b16a is 170bhp but the b16a2 is 160bhp, the vti-s ek is 170bhp jordan is 175bhp and of coarse 185bhp ek9 i am pretty sure on these figures but correct me if i wrong

Nope all u.k Ek4 vti have b16a2 with 160bhp including the civic jordan its just yellow with leather seats every things the same. but japan import civic with b16a have 170 bhp, like the eg6 sir, and ek4 and then the ek9 with 185bhp

im 18 and i have a civic jordan, and im on my dad insurance and its costing me 1800

uk lsi1.5 doesnt have 130 bhp it has about 112 bhp ish

but id go to 1.5 3 door hatch and strip it out

Yeah I've got a 1.4 and I can tell you there not slow
saying that I did have a 1.1 1995 fiesta before that lol
and aparently when you actually test them they are closer to 100 then 90 bhp
but that may not be true
is the 1.5 vtec the same shape as my ej9?

its should be the same shape 3 door hatch!
my mate had a 1.5lsi and it wasnt a slow car
