Any military on here?

Which para reg you looking to join. Just done four years serving with 1 para myself.

2 or 3, dont make a difference as theyre both in colchester.
to join 1PARA you have to do 2years service with the 2nd/3rd battalion first. obviously not 4para with that being t/a.

i thought you was in REME? must be thinking of someone else

yes mate i'm in the reme. dont need to do the two years service anymore as we were getting guys straight from depot

is that a recent change then? 1PARA would defo be my first choice if thats the case haha

what job do you do in the reme? so many lads were going for that down selection the other day

when he says serving with the 1 para im pretty sure he was attached if he is reme

i also thought u couldnt join 1 para direct now due to fact there SF support could be wrong though

lee s where will you be training recruits and tbh this circuit is saturated with blokes with 5/6 years experience and the choice of companys is getting smaller so they basically have the pick and are really fussy on who they employ now

A phase 2 mate, yeah bet its tough.

Yeah got posted to Edinburgh about a year ago as I was sick of being deployed all the time.

I'm a class 1 mechanic, I'd strongly suggest getting a trade of some description at some point when you join up. The Security circuit is pretty hard to get into as mentioned they have their pick when employing guys with a decent bit of experience. One of my mates is earning decent wages abroad as a mechanic instead of going down the close protection route.

Yeah I was reme attached for four years with 1 para.

if you go to the right job you can earn 33k plus within 6 years as a L/cpl, with all the extras.

Reme is a good trade if thats what you WANT to do, dont do it just because its the thing to do.

Yeah not wanting to shoehorn you into the reme, there's plenty of other trades to do in the army.
Nothing against infantry lads but I've seen plenty get out over the last few years to find out there's not much work on civvie street for ex infantry unless you fancy doing security work abroad.

haha i get it all the time from friends i know in the army, join reme, join royal engineers etc etc. ive had my heart set on infantry since school so nothing will change my mind. i'll grab everything the army throws at me though and get the most out of it as possible education/qualifications wise.

what is the 'security circuit'? is that just a term for security work in general?

also, got a date for para selection (prac) in a few weeks time. WILL pass that and hopefully start basic for summer!

lol i loved the infantry but only when on course or deployed on OPS in camp crap annoyed the life out of me
