So it may be a fairly low level motorsport compared to the events some of the guys on this forum compete in, but it's also the cheapest and easiest form of racing to get involved with with local championships taking place all over the country and a broad spectrum of cars ranging from 1.1 Metros through rip snorting rally reps to single seat spaceframed bike engined specials. You don't need anything more than a standard driving license to compete and events cost from around £10 per day!

Just wondering if anyone else here competes on a local level (or national in the US), what you events are like, what your competition is, what setups you use and how you get on in the points! :win:

Our events run a mini-sprint format in that the entire course is run in a forwards direction, so no parking in bays, reversing or any of that kind of stuff. A short video showing a one of our typical courses:

Obviously being on the IOW it's a bit of a trek to come over for ours, but most counties will have a motorclub you can get in touch with who will more than likely run some kind of event like this. Bear in mind that motor clubs tend to focus on particular types of event, ours is primarily autotesting, however over the water the Wessex and Southsea MCs are primarily engaged with road rallying.

Road rallying is massive fun, I intend to get more involved with doing those this year. :nice:

My car runs in C4 (Modified over 1400cc, the most popular class) in full road trim, main spec is:

Quaife LSD
Lightened flywheel
Spoon fixed dampers and progressive springs
ASR 24mm rear ARB and brace
AEM CAI
OEM EK9 manifold back exhaust
Buddyclub P1 15x6.5J and whatever the best tyres are I can get hold of on the day, usually 205/50/15 R888 or A048R.

My main competition in my class is an Impreza RA, a supercharged Mini and an EF9, although for the last two events the EF9, owned by a mate, has been broken so he has driven my car and beaten me both times. Whilst this is annoying, it shows there is still some improvement to be made and the car is not holding me back yet. Last event we took 1st and 2nd in class and 5th and 6th overall.

We should hopefully be seeing the addition of an EK9 to the championship later this year so it will be interesting to see how I get on against that.

Just had a quick look on MSA autotesting website, and you need a licence for it but its cheap. I will look deeper into it when I am at home. I always wanted to do something like this :nice:
 
i used to compete in the local one, my mate got me into it and he did quite well.
i used a stripped out ef, was ideal with rear drums for locking the back end up and seeing as alot of the events were on old industrial unit i wasnt too bothered about bodywork either.
 
Ive competed in SCCA Autocross for a few years, a ton of fun.
Average track/course time was about 90 seconds. 3 attempts on the same track, best time wins. I loved the hot laps at the end of the day, time permitting.

Started out bone stock and I began to mod the civic accordingly [trying to stay within my class--little luck]. Slowly moved into more modified classes but I placed 2nd in my class via points at the end of the season.

Its a ton of fun and made a ton of friends autoxing.

how exactly did you go about joining did you pay the individual membership and then paid for the license??

SCCA - Sports Car Club of America
i will sign up for the SafeRacer First Gear Membership
which is 45 bucks then i guessing the license is extra to race right??
i really would love to join its been a passion since a little boy and now i believe i'm ready to step my game up.



if anyone has more info about joining scca please let me know its time to stop street racing and go legit lol my driving record is gettin crazy :naughty:

Membership is low cost, racing is just as low cost...but a ton of fun. If you let SCCA members know your a novice at your event, they will help you get everything up to date for your racing. They are all very helpful.
