B16b or b18cr?

In terms of fun or performance I'd choose a B18C but a B16B is a bit more reliable. Not that a B18C is bad in those terms, it's just that a B16B seems to do a bit better.

What u mean that B16B is a bit more reliable? it is in tern for the engine hardware or performance?

Thanks.

B18C-R all day long, B16B is overpriced for what it is,

The extra torque, and power makes a difference, go B18C-R.

I don't understand your second question. Can you rephrase?

Based on u say that b16b is more reliable, so is it the engine hardware is reliable or its high rev performance is reliable?

Thanks.

Iv had both in EK civics and B18C is superior.

B16B is an amazing engine! My favourite honda engine. But for power B18C

Cheers JT, was gonna post that.

B16B is without a doubt the better endurance engine.

B18C is 'burn twice as bright, for half as long' in comparison.

Worked this out this morning, thought it might be of interest.

One B16B, one B18C. At 100,000 miles at an average of 50mph, both have been running for 2000 hours, or 7.2million seconds.

At 4000rpm, a B16B has a piston speed of 10.3m/s. That's 74,160km that the piston has travelled over that 100,000 miles.

The B18C at 4000rpm is at 11.6m/s. Over that same 100,000 miles the pistons have each travelled 83,250km.

The B16B has a maximum rod angle of 15.78°, the B18C is 18.56°, owing to it's longer stroke and shorter rod, which exacerbates piston wall wear. That's an increase of 17.6%, which if we attributed that as extra wear in the form of mileage, gives an equivalent piston travel of 98,233km.

Working this backwards 98,233km is 9.54million seconds @ 10.3m/s, that's an equivalent of 132,460 miles on a B16B engine.

Extrapolating that out, 150k on the B18C is equivalent to 199,000 miles in a B16B.

That might be why the big brother likes to burn oil then!

At the mileages these engines are at now, I feel it is a significant factor. I would be completely confident in a 100k B16B but not a B18C.

If you don't buy a lemon. ;)

Thats easier said than done though isnt it?

Neither are more reliable than the other, plus by now most of these engines will have been apart at some point in the cars life for one reason or another, and had serviceable parts replaced anyway.

They are both excellent engines but the b18C has more power and torque.

the B16B is slightly more rev happy which loosely translates as more 'fun' but you can hardly say a b18 doent eat its way through gears!

Depends what you are after.

:bow::bow::bow: awesome post Kozy!

My B18C I had in my JDM teg was in immaculate condition, just under 100k miles, full service history, well looked after etc but still it burned so much oil!! Piston rings were shot so were valve stem seals... went though a litre every 250 miles

Won't touch another B18C :nono: They just don't seem to last past 70-80K miles. All you here of is smokey B18's

Love that explanation, numbers to back your opinion ftw. Even though at 100k miles I'd still choose a B18C if it wouldn't be burning oil at the moment I buy it :p I'd take the risk of having to pour extra oil in the future for more power and more fun for my taste. Had a D16Z6 once, burned 1ltr oil every 2000 miles (bad buy :( ) but it kept running like crazy. Even did 131mph with it :p

your "burning oil" meaning here is engine oil?

Why ppl here alway say: "B18C-R all day long"

i don't understand?

Because it has more power and torque...the people that say 'b16b is more revvy' have normally not owned a b18c in their ek and thus cite this crap reason for the b16b's superiority.
