B18 ek4 build

very nice build, my engine build is very similar to yours!! if not identical!!

yea just an oem spec build really, could have saved a few £££ by just buying a second hand b18 swop but as you know thats a minefield if you dont know the engine etc.

all the small parts add up but i think its worth it in the long run.

i know what you mean! just for small bits its expensive (seals, gaskets etc etc) all adds up!!

b18 time....

running the engine in at the moment (no vtec :angry2:)
done 100 miles then dumped the mineral oil and put fresh mineral in.

plenty more oil/filter changes and then mapping by "vtec6000" on here.

still to put the aftermarket fuelrail on for bling when i find a connector i need.
alloy rad also to go on in time.

Nice updated mate we need figures :)

be few weeks before i get on "heart breaker" dyno or whatever they call the dyno dynamics set up.

its just an oem build with oversize pistons with decent bolt ons so im not gonna break any records :secret:

Lovely motor there  Glad to see its in and running mate! Keep us updated on how the performance has changed when its all run-in and mapped :nice:

Looks spot on Ricky!! Im not looking forward to my run in time ( when ever the sodding thing is ever finished!!!) decided to hoard a few more items before I put the engine in :)

yes its such a "grey area" breaking in an engine,im doing plenty of oil changes on the mineral at the moment, some say 1500 miles then swop to semi and some say 500.

might even map it around 500-1000 on the mineral, see what happens.

UPDATE..............

well after all the oil changes on the mineral oil i put the semi synthetic in just over 500 miles on the clock.

"vtec6000"(Aonghus) on here advised that i do that as he was going to be the guy doing the mapping.

so drove around 2.5 hrs on friday to the rolling road just west of Dublin, had a chat with Aonghus then he went about setting up all the bits for us to go out onto the road first before we hit the dyno.

must have been out on the road for 30 mins or so and and i was made to do various loads on the car while Aonghus worked his magic on the laptop.
back to the dyno and we got set up for that.

Aonghus then done his magic whilst i looked at the large screen getting confused with different graphs,ha!

now i must say Aonghus did earn his money and was very helpful indeed and kept me informed all along.

now i knew this was a low reading dyno and known as the "ego killer"
best i made was 189.3/140 which i thought was about right as im just running a b18 with bolt ons.
guy with a smokey DC2 went on after me and made 157 !!!
this made me feel bit better but i said to myself before i wasn`t getting worked up with the figures and as long as it drove well i would be happy.

seems i can get bit more outta this build if i change my exhaust to a more free flowing backbox etc but that then means more noise!
im running a 60mm system at the moment but may look into something else as you can see it dipping on the graph.

here is the graph.....

engine light came on near end of the day and we later seen that the screw on my rotor arm on the dizzy let loose making a mess of my cap,bit of a weird one but was able to temp fix it to get me home thank god!
this means im taking it easy until i get a new dizzy, another good thing is my oil level hardly moved at all so hope that good sign the build was done well.

ohh i also have "launch control" and shift light on my clocks as the software Aonghus used has these trick features.

i would like to thank Aonghus again for his time and anybody in the north/south Ireland thinking of mapping their cars deffo give this guy a shout.
:win:

"low reading dyno"

I HATE this phrase

i know i have heard that before,i will let Aonghus explain that one :nerv:

at the end of the day they are just a guide,i have enough print outs here from various dyno`s to know why people get so hot and bothered.

if your happy at the end of the day then all good :nice:

i guess, but generally a dyno is a tool and it is as accurate as the operator using it. personally i think the high and low reading thing is rubbish

good to hear what your thoughts are once you get the dizzy sorted :nice:

Yes correct it is a tuning tool and figures don't bother me however when comparing this dyno to 90% of the other dyno's in Ireland it's down anywhere from 10-20% in comparison of power readings hence the Dyno Dynamics obtained the name "heart breaker dyno" or "Ego killer"
It's often the case I get car's to map which were dyno'd elsewhere some time ago and lets say for example the car made 200bhp on the other dyno and then on the DD it's making less after mapping some take this badly and can't get there head around it as in there mind they have gained no power although most people come around after they drive it and feel the extra power with their butt dyno:D

@Ricky, was nice meeting you and I can confirm this car looks as good up close as in the pics:drool: The dizzy rotor screw sure made mince meat of the cap:angry2:
