B20 VTEC or H22?

Hi all, I've currently got a dilemma on where to take my Jordan. I don't want to go down the boosted route, and K swap is a bit out of the budget. I've narrowed it down to one of the above. Anyone had one or both to give opinions?
Obviously the H22 will be better out of the box, but I've already got a B16a2 with an S2 inlet, AEM fuel rail, 440cc injectors and S300 ecu. Having read the FAQ, it could be a case of spending a few hundred quid on the Eagle conversion and bits&bobs and that'll be it ready to run?

Summary, what would people choose? I've set aside about £2500-3000 for the engine to be built and I can get my mates to fit it no problem.

H22 would be more reliable.

B20 like to destroy bottom ends.

Personally I would go for a B18C with some skunk2 stage 1 cams and a remap with that budget, will see about 220ish bhp :nice:

Between the two, I'd go for a H22 (H22A7 to be specific). Reliable, decent power and torque, and not too expensive.

Logan, I've read mixed reviews on bottom ends. Some saying what you have, with others swearing reliability :angry2: Yeah a B18 would be decent, but I want the larger, torque rich brother! Thanks though :)

Rooney, I have indeed mate. That's another rabbit hole I'll need to go down if I decide to go H series, as there's pro's and con's to that!

Yeah Saqib, if I were to go down the H22 route it would have to be the ATR. Or at least have ATR Pistons and rods.

2 of my friends have had B20s and both bottom ends gave up after a while. I would not trust them as they don't like to be revved that high, which lets be honest is why we love Hondas!

My totally standard B18C with good bolts on and a remap made 209bhp and 152.4ft/lbs which is very good for a b series with only bolt ons and it felt pretty torquey for what it was. @Saqib was in the car around knockhill, he can vouch for how well it went :nice:

From what i've seen B20's can only last if you leave them standard and dont fit the vtec head to them!

B18c's are not slow by any means but trying to pick one up for a decent price is the hard part, quite a few of them go for good good money! For your budget you would be able to get a B18c and bolt your parts on, good exhaust manifold and box makes the difference aswell!

B18c with fancy bits or h22 IMO.
Don't rate the b20 at all. You may have more luck with b18c crank and rods in a b20 block but this will need new Pistons to get compression back Iirc.

I know you said you didn't want boost, I can understand why but at low pressure they still drive very much like they do n/a, just more power.
Low pressure is also more reliable and parts can be had cheap if you know where to look.

I'll have my manifold up for sale soon and it won't be expensive(like £50)

He'd get money back on his b series parts and if he can source 2nd hand k swap bits he might be able to.

Jesse do you think it's getting harder to sell b series parts as I've noticed you have been stuck with parts for ages.
I've got so much things I've collected and now need rid off, think I won't be able to shift them.

If i was to choose it would be a H22a7 swap all the way. I've had a couple of Atrs now and they are a really potent engine.

Tbh I usually only sell on here, which has gone very quiet lately so that's my issue.
Stuck some bits on eBay and Facebook is a waste of time generally so yeah, Struggling to shift all my parts.

I did try sell some bits on ebay however I prefer collection only and had no interest. I would rather meet fellow enthusiasts and let them check out the goods before they buy so that they are fully satisfied.

Yeah I prefer that also, I find most of the parts I put on eBay end up abroad.
My radiators going to Italy of the postage is cheap enough...

Anyway abit of topic lol
Between the two I'd defo go h22.
£3000 would get you up and boosted no problem though....

Never experienced a h22 except from racing a h22 Eg6 and leaving it. But I'm aware either he was a crap driver or his tune was crap so can't comment on them
