best B series to turbo?

-should i replace my piston rings with new oem ones before i turbo or can i get away without it?
-which thicker gasket should i get?which brand too?
-im thinking the turbonetics kit on ebay, is that good enough?

also i just want to have a 2.5' full exhaust.
-do i have to buy new injectors, fuel pump and boost controller?
-should i buy an apexi neo and have the ecu tuned?or can i just have the ecu tuned (lower vtec perhaps too?)
sorry for so many questions, i am newbie on this one.thanks so much!
cheers!

OEM pistons are fine, you should do a compression and leakdown test to make sure everything is healthy. Cometic makes some great head gaskets for about $90 I believe you can get .060 which should brig your CR down to about 9.5:1 depending on if you have pr3 or p30 pistons in there.

Turbonetics kit is kind of old and... well not the best to be honest, it will get the job done but there is better for the price, like the Edelbrock kit, it uses a superiour Garrett GT turbocharger.

New fuel pump would not be a bad idea, like a walbro 255HP, injectors you will need to upgrade, RC550cc should be big enough.

Apexi NEO is worthless for turbo applications, a proper ems would be much better like Hondata S200/S300, Power FC, AEM EMS etc...

Il probably be selling my HKS turbo kit soon if your interested(gt28rs turbo).

how much difference of the turbonetics price vs garretts? i was thinking of getting a good turbo kit and BOV (blitz or hks - id like to have a loud BOV)and cheaping out on the pipings, exhaust manifold, intercooler kit etc.

is an aftermarket fuel pump a must to have this setup or just a good idea?
do i need boost controller too?

i also have a limited budget unfortunately, i hope i can cheap out on some parts and spend on the must spend on parts for this setup.but if i cant manage the finances i think i have to wait for a bit or go for n/a for a while :( though i badly want to go turbo, even on stock boost or a lil bit over like 10 psi.

thanks!:nice:

wow you seem real keen on this one lol
i thought about it for a day and then got scared of finances lol
it should be interesting to see the out come of this thread could be very handy as i am thinking about doing it again now as i am more into the honda scene than i was before,

ive just bought a b18c head and getting some b16b camshafts, now, would this be a good setup to use along side forged pistons and the usual gubins
i have a b16a2 block btw...

Fuel pump is a must.

The edelbrock victor X kit is $3300 From there you will need to buy injectors fuel pump and an ems and then have it all tuned which will cost an additoinal $1000-2000.

Now i understand your concerns with finances and we could fix all this and make it much cheaper, but you have to lower your hp goal a bit, now if you are willing to accept somewhere around 250whp (300bhp) then you just buy the Edelbrock Performer X turbo kit which includes EVERYTHING you need to turbo your car including fuel management, no additional tuning or parts are required. Price on this kit is about the same $3300 And you can upgrade later if you want more power. No need for headstuds or a thicker headgasket as its pretuned for the b16a's compression i just suggest you use the highest grade fuel available in your area.

sounds good to me! i will be doing more research.its just that economy is so bad right now, everythings seem to be more expensve and harder to do.hmp!

it says on the website..

STREET LEGAL TURBO KITS INCLUDE:

* Garrett ball bearing Turbo preassembled with exhaust manifold and elbow, including coolant and oil lines
* Performer X manifold preassembled with secondary fuel rail and four additional injectors
* Preassembled Russell fuel and oil lines with adapters
* TiAL blow-off valve
* Large Spearco or Garrett intercooler with TIG welded cast aluminum end tanks
* Edelbrock boost gauge by Auto Meter with A-pillar mount pod
* Ceramic coated Turbo piping and high flow air filter
* All gaskets, adapters and instructions
* O-ring sealed compressor inlet/outlet pipe flanges

so, plug and play for this kit right?

Performer X kit = plug and play.
Victor X kit = NOT plug and play and requires additional parts.

hi there,

i have researched on it a bit. i think ill be going for a b16a for now.opening myself for more options down the road with a bit saved or not going over the budget.

thanks to everyone.

cheers!

604 in tha house!!

16A is a good choice on a budget, but might I suggest that you get a good clutch/flywheel before you go ahead with your turbo. Also to note, an LSD (limited slip diff) would be a great idea as well.

It's my express opinion that a turbo kit is not complete with these often overlooked but absolutely necessary items....what good is power if you can't put it to the ground?

LSD and clutch are VERY important indeed!!

hey raging angel where you at? yup 604 man!

anyway, im thinking doing the swap done first, then take it from there.im thinking of itr lsd and in the future exedy stage 1 clutch and flywheel. b16a2 rebuilt. rings, seals, gasket waterpmup timing belt etc.

then full type r exhaust and n1 spoon muffler.CAI. then, thats it for the near future.

5 lug maybe..

then, i hope turbo.hehehe.cheers!

2 good things you pointed there,,my Ej6 have a boosted JDM GS-R with 7lbs ,im makin 303whp,before i boost my clutch was good but now its been a month and my clutch has been quitting a couple of times ,so before you go boost ,,i think its good to add LSD & Clutch (*ACT*)

I'm in Hong Kong now, but hail from the North Shore in 604.

Per your list - I'd not even bother with the stage 1 exedy. Read up on it a little bit and you'll find that for every 1 person who loves theirs, there's another who positively hates it due to engagement issues and reliability.

For around the same price, you ought to just go with an OEM ITR clutch.

With regards to rebuilding your 16A, you ought to just save up and have it all done at once. All = transmission and your rebuild.

What's more, try and attend a few lapping days with PDC

hey RA,

heard yah.thanks for the advice.i might take it slow.economy is slow as well, so the USD to CAD is bad, YEN to CAD is BAD. so for imports (at least for me) its BAD as well. so i guess i will just do a b16a rebuild and itr tranny.then itr/ctr exhaust and CAI and call it a day (for now).:nice:

ok since we talked about LSD and Cutch/Flywheel, i have dumb question.....
will the 99 B16B tranny bolt up to a B16A block??? if they do i am going to use that combo..
