Best discs and pads for hard track?

So we took the 9 out on track on Sunday for the first time since we bought it, it currently runs the following:

EBC drilled and grooved heat treated discs
EBC Yellow front and rear pads
Integra JDM brake master cylinder and booster
Tilton bias adjuster
HEL braided lines.
Car Weight 940kg
B16B with breathing

With 2 of us driving around Donington Park the car spent a lot of time on track and 20 minute stints at a time. I thought the brakes were pretty good, and was able to brake well and quite late, never got any fade, and only 1 or 2 lock up's. However you always want to brake later.

Car came in and after 15 minutes i decided to get 15 minutes in before the track closed, was just cruising the first lap, but as i came down to the bottom of caner's i pressed the brake pedal and the pedal just went straight to the floor and it didnt stop.

I presume the fluid was cooked. So i am moving to Castrol SRF fluid.

However I'm not sure if i should swap the discs and pads out, i need the car to be doing 20 minutes if not 30 minutes at a time out on track, anyone have any recommendations on better discs and pads, or does anyone run this combination? Our discs and pads are pretty fresh, only done 1 civic cup race and 1 trackday, they are good but dont want to loose them at the next track day in 3 weeks if it was the brakes and not the brake fluid.

The car will most likely be moving to Kswap in the next 2 months so take that into consideration with the disc and pad combo.

Any opinions, idea's much appreciated.

If the car is track only, I use hawk blue 9012 at the moment and they are very good. Light years over Yellowstuffs.
Very dusty and hard on the discs though, and sometimes can throw off sparks if you get them a little too hot - apparently it's normal.

What fluid are you using at the moment? Very worrying for you to lose pedal following a slow lap. Maybe you're dragging a brake or something.

If you haven't done so already you could grind off the dust shield behind the discs to get a bit more airflow around them.

Hi Mate,

Cheers, I will take a look at the pad you mention.

Im not sure what fluid is in it, it did one Civic Cup race before we bought it. My mate 20 a 20 minute stint then came into the pits (car performed all day), i gave it 10 minutes too cool down, then went out. First corner was OK, and then second corner nothing.

My mate said he didnt have any problems during his stint, and Im not dragging, unsure if he is, but i doubt it.

I'll take a look at it this weekend, I hope its fluid rather than changing the brakes right now.

What discs do you run?

Cheers

I used carbon Loraine rc6 on the front of my ek9 at the ring, the hotter they get the more they bite.
Used them with cheap mtec discs.

I'm also using this setup, pads are dusty and destroy the rims with sparks, but crazy stopping power,

Do you guys use ABS with RC6 pads? Whats the brake pads feel like? Instant bite or can you be progressive?

I didn't have abs. You can be progressive easy enough, I could modulate the pedal to stop a lock up and still slow down easily enough. I've no complaints about them tbh. I got them on the new ek9. Going turbo and I'm not worried about the brakes keeping up.

Im using RC6 in my track eg6, theyre best pads iv used but i dont think pads are your problem

It's not going to pad or disc. If the pedal went to the floor then it's going to be hydraulic related. Just worrying in how it happened. If it was whilst you were a few laps into going hard then you would just put it down to the fluid boiling. As it was when you were going easy then you'd probably have to consider other things.
I would definitely change the fluid for some good dot 4 with a 300C or better dry boiling point. Have a good check on the hoses too.

Just wondering why you fitted a dc2 master cylinder as they are the same as ek9.

Yes def change fluid for at least 5.1

Dunx

5.1 is not recommended for Honda brakes. Can damage the rubber seals

Not sure on grade but heard ATE super blue is really good out on track some rate it better than motul rbf600.

super blue. my old man uses this on his 350 bhp mx5 and its mega...

You mean dot5 !

The Motul 600/660 outlasts the ATE by a long way , but a good bleed on the Castrol SRF will last a long long time , and much more cost effecient in the long run .

Drop me a PM if you want some prices on brakes. We supply decent discs and pretty much and pad you like at good prices.
Also can do decent affordable 4 pot upgrades as well.

thinking about what you said again, it is probably just the fluid boiling. if your mate drove it quite hard and didn't do much in the way of a cool down lap then as you parked it for 10min the fluid just got hotter and hotter as the heat from the calipers spread into the hoses with no airflow to help move the heat away.
again, just get some good fluid and on trackdays make sure you do a cooldown lap before you come in touching the brake as little as possible.
