This has probably been skimmed over many a times but im new to the forums (go easy lol) so i thought i'd ask, gonna be getting Hamps filter but was wondering whats the best oil for a b16a2 Engine? (Civic 97 1.6 vtec)

thanks, Will. :nice::nice:

really is matter of opinion on this one but any sort of 10w40 reputable name oil will do fine . som people will say 5w30 but far to thin in my opinion . stick with 10w40 you will be fine mate

I used motul 15W 50 on my B16A with B16B pistons, no problems at all :)

Like J7 said, its up to you :)

Yeh i thought 10w40 was about right, any sort of Brand specific is best? its got Mobil in at the moment.

"best" is dependent on your conditions.

rvm uses the 15W50 because he lives in a very hot climate.

I find 5W30/10W30 to be just fine on a daily basis and 10W40 to be good at the track.

WHOA! 10w40?!

isn't that a little too thick?

could be losing power for those racing junkies, and gas mileage for those daily drivers?

think of a 5w30/20 as a softball going through the oil passages...now think of 10w40 as a beachball. which one is going to slip through easier? And this was quoted by the geniuses at Royal Purple.

I personally run 5w30 Synthetic. Just my kind of fancy. And plus from what I've learned in class, chosing the wrong oil religiously could lead to premature failure of the engine, even if you are trying to go for a thicker oil to slow down any kind of oil leaks you have.

But sure 10w-40 is what honda has in it from the factory and thats what they supply at the dealers.

isn't true because of a lot of different factors?

1. the condition of a car that's still in the factory/assembly line will obviously be a lot more different than a car on the roads.

2. honda also sells anything for ALL their cars...

I'm pretty sure for a little 1.6L the manual would recommend 5w30/20

and 10w40 is more appropriate for high mileage

as mentioned before, it is dependent on how and where you drive your car and also what the climate is.

There are plenty of cars that are high mileage and run just fine on 5W30 and 10W30. 10W40 isn't all that thick considering it is the same Winter weight as 10W30. It just offers a high margin of protection when things get hot.

It's just a rough guide as it's obvious that 5W20/5W30 doesn't just operate in negative temps.

If the motul is performing well why not stick with it?
It's well priced also if you use simauto on here.
