Alrighty people. Whats the best process for breaking in an engine after a rebuild. I've read that do 3 or 4 oil changes within the first 1000 miles, and also no harsh driving within first 1000miles i.e no vtec! is this correct?

What oil would you recommend using to break in also? Is there such a thing as break in oil. Also what engine oil is recommended once the break in has been done?

Cheers :nice:

after my rebuild i was told to run it in on "mineral oil" which was actually
Vauxhall stuff!
i would say use mineral and change oil as soon as it goes black, its cheap
as chips anyway so change often :)
drive the car "sensible" with some v-tecin added in and dont put the engine
under too much load...i.e...low revs up hill etc

melted my head looking through internet posts trying to find this info as
it also depends on what your looking for after "bedding in" like..what the
car ised used for? track/road etc

can depend on each individual engine how long it takes,i now run mine
on the castrol 10/40 oil (not magnetic)the one in the white container!

using this as i havnt done any trackdays so far but know it would be "daft"
to track a car with this oil in it :((

all in all keep the revs up and take it around some twistys and work it:)

thats just my 2p of info i have picked up through people like "henry the kat"
and a friend who are working on b`series engines all the time

plenty of members on here are well educated in this field so i will give
them space to post :nice:

10w30 mineral oil, let it idle for about 5 minutes with the proper a/r ratio you can rev it up to about 4000rpm and let it go down, then 10 minutes of driving under 4000rpm, let it idle again for awhile, turn it off. Your done, its time for tuning on a dyno now. Thats how i do it...

After that i drive it how i want (usually HARD) change the oil again with mineral oil, then i do my next oil change at 100mils, then next at 500miles with mineral oil again then next oil change with synthetic at 1000miles and i run synthetic all ways now.

thats some pretty contreversial stuff:shocked:
i hate seing things like this, makes me think what if?

If you read my post you will see i use a similar method, my tuner also uses the same method.

I know of a few people that have used this method and all their engines are going strong :nice:

On my old race car, we were using this method too ---> warm up stuff, make
sure every thing is fine (no leaks etc...) then RACE !!

With my go karts we even did the break in during the pace lap before the race...

all i mean is that its a topic with 2 stories that people will disagree over
run in easy vs run in hard, ek9 vs dc2, etc:
thats where the controversy comes from:D

Never mind :p

Thats what i would do. if you have spent alot of money on a rebuild beter to be safe and just take it easy at first. then give it a kick in

slowly breaking it in is a good way for the long life of a motor... however the above posted method is better for power beat her up from the start and it will make more power its proven

Thanks for all the replys guys.

As much as i want to be kicking its hole in i think i will take it easy lol at least for the first 200miles anyway then see how it goes. I just wasnt sure on how many oil changes and what oil was recommended so cheers Blinx, your pretty much a legend :nice:

Guys, ive just foud this thread...
Currently im breaking the motor the slow, "safe", usual way, not revving the engine past 3.5k rpms, for the first 1000km.
BUT we usually change the oil at that moment, not before.
From what ive read im gonna change oil today (should change filter too right?=

Well, the thing is that Raging Angel, just told me in another thread (http://www.ek9.org/forum/transmission/5231-what-s-helical-lsd-how-works-2.html#post161440)to break it up running it hard from the start, so i did this search.
It seems as many people go this way.
Im currently at 500km, should i start kickin the hell out of the vtec after i change my oil today, I dont know for about 200km and im set??????
No problems with this?

Thanks in advance...
