Right, bought this exhaust from SPD and they asked if I could do a review as a lot of people have been ringing them.

Firstly, build quality. Well, from what is essentially just a pipe the quality is good! The welds are excellent, and the tolerance on the slider parts of the system are very fine.

Fitment - using the OEM rubber bushes the fitment is also pretty good. The back pipe has loads of clearance over the lower arm, if anything is a little close to the chassis. There is one mod that I may have to do and that is shave a little material off the trailing arm bush housing (just been cautious that the exhaust wont hit it, if I go over any bumps, which it hasnt so far...). The actual pipe itself sits really discreet within the OEM bumper cut-out, just how I like it - hate the look of these big Jap-cans!

Power - Well with the slider system and been a true 2.5" straight-thru there are abviously gains over the stock system, how much exactly is unknown. I can change gear lower down and it pulls just that bit better, and its definitely helped top end! The change over is very aggressive and pronounced, but I dont want to quote figures until the car is Dyno'd - the noise can be mis-leading making you feel like your going faster than you actually are!

Noise - I doubt this exhaust needs any introduction with regards to noise. Ive got an OEM manifold and a resonated De-cat.
If you have kids or pets then I would strongly advise not buying this exhaust, your kids will have nightmares and your pets will migrate! I find that @ 60mph on the motorway its fine, but otherwise its just loud and really hard to drive quietly, when you let off it burbles and pops a lot unless you have the bung in. I personally love the sound on the Welsh lanes echo'ing through the mountains, but if you have your '9 as a daily driver then please think carefully before buying.

To sum up i've always wanted a full Spoon system, and probably sometime in the future I will get one, BUT, and its a big BUT; This system cost £300 brand new, its full stainless steel, lightweight weighing only 8kgs cat-back (Approx.), true 2.5" system unlike the Spoon/Mugen etc so best for power.

I'll try and get a decent video up soon, but so far any video's I have recorded just seem to distort the true noise.

Hope this helps,

Josh..

good review josh strange looking exhaust looks to me its just a pipe sticking out the back(well thats what an exhaust is but is unusual) someone is bound to know what i mean

its because theres no back box mate just a one piece item, its like a trumpet at the end lol

does this make much of a difference in terms of performance compared to a back box. and also will this effect emissions during an nct

In terms of performance, yes! The less restriction the better, but often this goes hand-in-hand with noise!

As far as the emissions go, I dont think it will have any effect. From what I understand emissions are governed soley by the cat, a backbox is just down to noise...

this is probably louder than running just a manifold

friend has a spec 3 which is the same apart from it has a rear backbox to silence some of the noise and its still unbearably loud

Possibly, the pipe may actually amplify it, with the added rasp!

It is insane, trying my best to get a decent video but they all come out sounding really bad :nono:

Im running a De-cat with this exhaust fine.

Im using a 'Resonated' type de-cat, which tends to get rid of that drone on the motorway!

Well man, just wondering where can you get the buddyclub spec 2 for £300?!

I'm from Ireland and looking for a new exhaust system for my Integra and is there anywhere online I can buy it for that price?!

Cheers
Keith

this system is no good for track users right?
it wont pass the noise test will it?

I was speaking to a lad at Castle Combe at Japfest. He had a B18 EK with OE manifold, decat and the Spec II.

@ 4500 rpm with the bung it came out at 98db
@ 4500 rpm without the bung it read 131db

So with the bung in you shouldnt have any issues getting on a trackday.
