Caliper won't come off

Now, I've changed brake pads before plenty of times, but am I missing something special here? My rear caliper is sticking, so I wanted to remove it to see what's wrong. I've removed the 2 caliper bolts as per the picture below, but the caliper won't budge. I've tried gently tapping it with a rubber hammer but nothing! What's the deal?!

If its binding its not going to be as easy to remove as previously!

Things you can do.

1.check the h/b isnt on.(has to be said)
2. Use a long screwdriver or pry-bar and wedge it between the gap where the calliper and carrier is and pry it out.

Takes effort but it will come off,

haha thanks guys. Handbrake is definitely off, I have a feeling the piston is probably stuck out. It's not binding too badly as I can rotate the wheel, but it is rubbing (and subsequently the pads are much more worn than the other side). I'll give it another go over the weekend and hope it comes off!

It seem that the piston has seized and that is the reason why it wont budge, use the long screwdriver or pry bar as earlier advised and you might want to look into replacing it as well

I have two calipers for sale 110 posted. Rather sell them as two instead of one.

Has the disc got much of a lip built up on it? Seems strange that you can rotate the wheel even with it binding but can't slide the caliper off, I once had a similar problem and a lipped disc was to blame, it was causing the pads to just hit it and not go any further.

Few minutes to file the lip away from one section of the disc, spun it round and it slide straight off.

Edit: That was with Brembos that I couldn't be bothered to take the pads out of, shouldn't apply to EK9 calipers as the pads are left behind with the carrier usually. Bigger pry bar :D

cheers guys. I managed to get it off - just got a block of wood and hammered it out! The pads were stuck on pretty hard though and didn't slide want to come out without some prying from a screwdriver.

Anyway, the caliper is off - the caliper slides freely along the pins so that's not the problem......it looks like the piston is stuck. I tried winding the piston back in - wouldn't move . I pressed the brake pedal down and same (brake line was still connected), piston still wouldn't move.

To me, it looks like it's in ok condition - rubber boot etc isn't split

Suggestions?

I've got a feeling mine are going to be the same.
Have you tried taking the caliper off the car completely then having a look?

If it's seized solid I would just buy a refurbed one off ebay or brakes international. Costs money but refurbishing yourself is just such a fiddly job and if you buy second hand for all you know you could be back in the same situation next pad change.

You'll need some heat on that, get some heat on it (flames) and wd 40

I took mine off and popped it out from behind. Got a blunt object in the brake fluid hole and tapped it with a hammer. Popped right out.
This was on the front though. I'm not sure how the backs go just yet.
Once its out you might be able to spot what's holding it stiff.
